Whats your "normal" oil temp

The weather has been changing here, down in the 40's and I have noticed in my CLK63 the oil temp hangs around 103 to 105 Celsius, just as it does when its 95 degrees outside. Is this a normal range? I thought I read on a thread somewhere that more like 85 to 90 was common. I also seem to have a sound similar to pinging from poor gas, like a pre-detination sound when I accelerate. Could these 2 thing linked?? MB tech says the pinging is normal, of course. Anyone else have this with the 63s?
Thanks

i dont own a 63 (obviously from my huge photo) but i've heard the "ping" sound right after i'd put the car in gear, a quick "ping!" and thats it...it's been there for a year or so...no major issues stemming from it idthink...and like all MB techs say "it's normal"...i hate when they say that sh!t...

oil temp is normally 10-20C above engine coolant temp. Oil temps up around 120C can also be considered normal if you drive with higher rpms and load. There is an auxilary fan which cuts in as required to bring oil temps down when required.

That sounds about right then

I was watching the engine temp today and it was around 85 C so adding 20 to that for oil temp would come out about right. Thanks.

The pinging that I'm hearing I think is coming from engine and not transmission. I did the TCU reflash with the dealer several months back and really have had no issues with it. The car definately felt stronger when I got it back and can certainly tell a difference in the shifting and the feel of the car. Before the reflash I did drive it in S mode most of the time because the M mode was too soft and felt too weak and mushy. Now, I end up driving in M more because the S mode feels alot more race-ish with shorter and faster shifting.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way for service to adjust the timing in this car? Back in the day we could adjust the timing on the B17 engine from Honda/Acura and would run better. This MB sounds and feel like the timing is off.

Thanks
TP

Thermostat Temp

Just a FYI . I recently was reviewing a new E-63 T-stat assy. Just looking to see if I could Mod it. It is quite a complicated assy. It also has a Electrical heating element built into it. Similiar to the Diesel Stat. The other thing I noticed it has a 100*C vernatherm. and 3 different sizes of precision ground springs. ___PTE___
