what year is the car. must be a 2001 or 2002. if you found that price for a 2003 i would have the car checked out first. that price seems about 10K too low.

car looks clean but i will still get it checked out independently. at least find a friend someone on this site that is close that would not mind taken a look at it. i am not sure if this dealer is a MB dealer so just be careful.

from what i have read these cars really dont have problems. the only major issue i have read about is the glycol in the transmission issue that has to do with some of the valeo radiators going south and leaking fluid into the torque converter and tranny. there is a TSB issued. so make sure you buy the extended warranty or you will be paying out of pocket if this problem comes up. the engines are supposed to be virtually bullet proof if you take care of them.

good luck. i have had my car about six months now. i researched for six months before buying and i have zero regrets.

I plan to buy an extended waranty but hopefully my modifing wont void it. All I plan is chip tuning and exhaust/intake. I love the way these cars sound. Im drooling over the pics on this site..lol:
Thaks for all the help.

not sure how much benefit you will get an intake. these cars have a pretty wide open stock intake. chip would be cool. i changed the stock muffler to a two chamber IMCO muffler. it is similar to a flowmaster on some level and it really made the car sound amazing. put the car on some KW V1 coilovers and painted the rear calipers. eventually i will put on some BBS wheels but that can wait a bit.

as far as the exhaust as a whole. you are not going to find many bolt on kits. Eisemann is the only one i really know of. the stock AMG exhaust is a 3in mandrel bent exhaust which is pretty bad ass.

Dan, for the price, that is a good buy. Make sure it's a clean title. The sound on the cars is great.

Yes, glycol in the transmission with Valeo radiators. You can read about my experiences here. I posted the TSB as well. And there was a recall for the alternator/power regulator. Make sure this car had it done, or didn't need it. Again, if you wade through the posts that I link to, I mention it.

Chipping and tuning these cars can get a bit pricey. S/C from Kleeman can add HP but also cost some $12K+. Chip alone is probably $2K vs. $400 or $500 for some of the ricers (The S600's are a "bargain" sale price right now from VP for around $2,800). Looks like your reading the threads though so you probably have this info already.

You're welcome! I've posted almost the same thing over at the AMG Private Lounge as well.

And BUBA, if the car checks out, JUMP ON IT! That is a great price! KBB says the car is worth just under $36K.

That doesn't seem to be far off for some weird reason. We paid right at $30k for our '04 CLK55 with 40k miles on it.

Carfax reports are dang near worthless. Nothing stops the previous owner from fixing damage out of pocket or in his driveway, which would not show on a Carfax. A thorough inspection by a good third-party is the way to go.

I can't imagine a better working and sounding exhaust than the AMG system that's on it. I LOVE the way ours sounds.

Well the sale didnt go through. I couldn't work on the delivery of the car as I live in NYC and I dont have time to go pick it up. I found a CLK 55 AMG that was just traded in, for $29,499 at a local dealer in NJ. It only has 42K miles and I"m goin tomorrow with a check to get my first Benz.

Personally, I would've at least called the Vegas dealer about this black 2004 CLK 55 coupe with only 4,050 miles on it.

Probably more than $29,499 though

Yep! The last time I paid for a Carfax subscription (years ago), I read the disclaimer. It basically said that Carfax does not go out and gather information at all, they rely on police/insurance/etc to notify them! And it turns out to be true. I had about a week left on the subscription but we had bought the C36 already, so I offered to look up people's cars if they wanted. Guy gave me the VIN to his old truck, and Carfax showed that he owned it, and it was now still on the road in NJ. Nothing out of the ordinary, just title information. Then the guy told me the truck's history - he had been in an accident (not his fault, he got hit), and the truck had been stolen twice, the second time resulting in the truck being found partially stripped. Insurance paid to put it back together, but none of that was mentioned in the Carfax report.

My mom had a van bought back by DaimlerChrysler on lemon law. The van would lose all power for no reason in awkward places like on the highway. They tried 5 times to fix it and finally bought it back and gave her a new van. Carfax on it showed clean. I have also personally seen vehicles that have been refurbished by wholesalers and such to sell which had damage, but the damage did not show on the Carfax report.

You're going to have to take a decent amount off that price tag. 35,000 miles and an '01 is going to be mid $20's not high $20's at this point.
