Very wierd question about CLK55

Guys,
3 times now I have had to hit the brakes hard because someone has cut me off on the highway. Not so unusual in the Philly, PA. area, but each time this has happened my Escort radar detector has gone NUTS!!! It shows LASER at full strength and each time there has been no police around at all. What the hell is going on?? I have a 2003 CLK55 AMG but I don't have the cruse control with the "distance" sensor on it. Is it just coincidence or is the car emitting a frequency that the laser detector is picking up??

Any advice would be appreciated,

Thanks,
Bob

I've reset it and it has done it's own "auto calibrate" between the times this has happened.

The only times this has happened has been with a car right in front of me and strong application of the brakes.

it might be that they also have a radar detector. they pass u, and then their radar detector goes off because the two radar detector emits a weird frequency and then they brake and u brake. it might all be a coincidence.

Escort radar detector

I have a 2001 clk55 I also have a Escort radar detector. The other day nothing to do with brakes but all of a sudden I have this noise that sounded like a car alarm going off. After a few it stopped. Don't ask me???

Dont axe me!

Everytime I go hard on the brake I get an ESP/ABS error message. The shop called today and said it didnt have anything to do with the brakes or brake sensors.... said it was a problem with the steering???? Anyway, I was glad to hear him say it was only a $150 fix, thats 1/3 of what they wanted for 8 spark plugs.

Your CLK55 has sixteen spark plugs.

Some cars (like Infinitis) have that active cruise control that uses laser. That might be it.

I was gonna say its probably the active cruise control but since you don't have that I have no idea. My car never does that with my V1. I do not have Distronic either.

It could be falsing from the LED taillights.

It may not be coming from your hitting the brakes (at least not directly, although the front end dive could reflect more of the incident LED light into the detector's sensor), but rather the LED taillights of the car in front of you. I get that a lot if a car in front of me hits the brakes and they've got LED taillights.

There is probably some wavelength overlap going on here, i.e. the LEDs are emitting some light in the same spectrum as police laser, which would cause this to happen...same thing as an X band door opener, only here it's light instead of radar.

And speaking of light: if you want to see some nice headlights, look down!!
