Who here has an order for the W209 CLK55?

Just curious are you guys paying MSRP or MSRP plus premium?

TIA!

I had one on order back in October, but backed out. It was at MSRP as well.

Thanks for your reply Ebringham! Why did you back out if you don't mind me asking?

Don't mind at all. It was a tough decision, and mostly due to personal perferences. Unlike lots of people, I am actually a fan on the 209 body style. I think it's distinctly more elegant but still sleek and sporty. I guess the main reason was because I was unsatisfied with the lack of HP/performance gains over the 208 AMG. Seems like the 2003 CLK 55 will be the slowest AMG in the lineup, at least for the time being (as you are well aware, it was quite recently the quickest). Overall, I am a bit uncertain of MB's goals with the CLK line.

However, my hunch is that MB will eventually put a supercharger in the CLK AMG, boosting the HP to the 450 territory, but I have no idea when that will be (perhaps in one or two years?). Basically, I wanted a car that would be a big upgrade over my CLK 430, but didn't want to buy the 2003 CLK 55, fearing one day I would wake up to learn that the SC version has been introduced and there is already an XX month waitlist. Though they are definately smart alternatives, I don't buy used and like to keep things stock - again this is personal perference.

My dealer just called to ask for option choices. I supposedly have a 2nd decade of March build date. I am paying MSRP but the 'gotcha' is the trade-in value on my 2001 CLK55. Sure was nicer last time around. Has anyone taken delivery yet. Sorry if this is a dumb question. I haven't been on the forum in almost two years. Jay/Dallas

Why would you get rid of your 2001 clk55 at what I am certain is at least a $12,000-$18,000 loss on a dealer trade? You will be getting the new CLK55 wich is much heavier (400 lbs.) and only slightly more hp and torque. The hp to weight ratio will be worse combined with the same gearing the car will be slightly slower or at best equal. In the long run the w208 model should hold its value better because so few were made(3 or 4 years from now).

Jay, do you know yet what they're offering for trade?

Ebrigham needs to 'fess up on the real reason he backed out on the 209. He landed a beautiful deep red Maserati coupe instead. Pics on the E forum. Beautiful car.

If only MB SCed the CLK 55, I wouldn't have had to do it dammit!

Anyway, I will be putting a few more pics up soon.

Reasons for trading '01 CLK55

As to why I'm trading my '01 CLK55 for an '03: In no particular order - I'm bored. I like new cars. I want the "Speed-Shift" although I'd prefer paddle-shifters. I like the hardtop (baby-CL) look. I can't afford an Aston Martin Vanquish. I can't afford the new Bentley Coupe. Because I have a "toy" car that is in its 11th year of restoration and still may not be ready for Monterey this August. Because although I admire the qualities of BMW's I despise their dealership organization. And lastly, I am sick of my all-black interior. On this last point - perhaps some of you could help. I cannot get a read on what can and cannot be ordered. When one orders (& pays for) a CLK55 one gets the upgraded leather. If one then pays the "change-order" cost and orders a non-CLK55 interior does one then get the "regular" leather from the CLK500? Am I paying an upgrade charge for less expensive leather. What about the CLK55 steering wheel which is different from standard. Will they just slap a black CLK55 wheel on my non-black interior? Arrrgh. Nobody at MB seems to be able to answer this. Sorry if this has been hashed out before.
Lastly - They offered me $45000 in trade for a 15,000 mile '01 CLK55 with no dings. The used market has tanked. Sorry.

$45K is not unexpected in trade.
Private sale you should be looking for $52-54K with <20K miles.
