A Pontiac that's faster than a CLK55?!

I thought I would never say this but watch out for the new Pontiac G8's sporting 6.0 badges.

When we first saw this video of the new 2008 Pontiac G8 GT running a 13.12 quarter-mile at 106.65 MPH we thought, "Wow, that's kind of fast." It's even faster if you consider that this appears to be an automatic version making its first pass. If you go deeper into the video you'll notice the lack of plates and that paper in the back window. Now it could be something put there by the owner/drag officials. The better theory is that it's a paper plate from the dealership, meaning that this car was driven off the lot and in front of the christmas tree. The best theory is that this car is in the middle of an awesome test drive. We guess those Pontiac G8 commercials are working.

Ditto. There is a lot more to a car than just straight line speed.

I definitely know there is more to a car than 0-60 BUT we were in an exclusive sub 5 second 0-60 club for the longest time but that barrier has been lowered with the $30K G8 and the $35K 135i. Trust me, I would NEVER even think about trading in my Merc for a Pontiac but it's sad to think that our CLK55 performance could be matched by much inferior machinery.

But lots of inferior cars have already done that. Look at the Mitsu Evo or the Subaru STI. Those cars are not much more than 30K and I'm sure there are others.

Lol...What matters is that we have an 7-8yr old car(?) and it took these other car manufacturers this long to match/beat it. Besides it's a MERCEDES-BENZ that was built in Germany without any regards when it comes to cost. Hence, over engineered. LOL..I must say though, it kind of hurts when you have a car that's worth half as yours and can match/outrun you on a drag race. Here's the thing, I wonder how stable it is once it reaches the 100mph+ mark?

Moreover, women/men look at you when you drive a luxury car. Like what I said to my friend who has an EVO..."It doesn't matter who gets there the fastest...what matters is: Who gets there with class, elegance, style, poise and panache." LOL! Over exaggerating...seriously though, I'm happy with my Mercedes. If I wanted to race I would get a true race car..what we have is a LUXURY sports coupe/cabriolet.

Just make sure it's the 50-Cent Special Edition. It's gotta be red and have "Window Shopper" constantly bumpin' in it.

Low 13-second performance is fast. It's also faster than many 996 Porsche Carerra C2s, too. How do you think they and the Cayman S guys all feel? They also know that straight-line isn't everything, and it's still a Pontiac!

Nothing new

WS6 Trans Ams were plenty quick and would be in CLK55 territory with a few bolt-ons. And they were in this same price range. Real problem is that Benz should've made the CLK55 (and E55 and S55 and CL55 pre supercharged) closer to 400hp instead of 350. Shoot, the motor in the CLK430 made more horsepower per liter than our ours did! Benz is just too conservative...a handbuilt AMG should put out more per liter than that.

Don't get me wrong, still love this moter, but it's always been about 50hp shy of where it should've been imo!
