Outside temperature display problem

My 2002 CLK55 has developed a small problem and I would appreciate any info/help. The digital display, between the fuel & engine temp guages, that shows the outside temperature is not functioning. It shows the temperature if you look at it really hard, but it is not displaying like it used to. It appears that the display has gone black some how. Any one else have this problem? Hopefully the exterior temperature sensor has gone dead. Those list for about $17. If not, the left side printed circuit that goes from the board to the LCD may have a crack. It can be repaired, but it's best if done by someone with experience in repairing printed circuits. It can also be taped and replaced with real wire.

Mine usually displays 10 degrees hotter than it really is.

It is showing the right temperature it just is really hard to see it. I think that the actual display portion has gone bad???

hi charles,

did you mean something wrong with the pixelation? i have the same problem with my 55. ill try to take a picture soon and post it here. anyway, i consulted my dealer and he said i could have the whole cluster changed for approx. $1,500. i opted to just keep it the way it is.

Problem has been repaired. My shop (Mercedes Complete) in Tampa fixed it in 15 minutes. They pulled the cluster and replace 2 bulbs $60.
