Anyone have any performance mods besides a Super Charger

I wanted to know if anyone has any good performance mods done. I would like to add some more HP without having to spend 20k for a super charger.

John

Try a 3.27 diff. We just did one on a customer's CLK55 Cab up North, and he loves it. With the traction control off, the wheels can spin all day long!

What does it does to the performance? By changing the gearing it will give me quicker starts but what about mid range and I know I will lose top end. Also what about changing the pulley how well will that work?

John,

Changing the differential will help acceleration throughout the powerband. The only drawback in performance would be that top speed would be reduced (although still much higher than most people every take their cars).

Thanks

Ben

Yes, it's the MKB. It includes a new EGS controller, which is necessary to make the ESP function properly (instead of constantly if you opt to go without it).

How much does this cost? I have read that it is much more involved and expensive than on american muscle type cars. I believe this it is in the $4,000- $6,000 range. For comparison the exact same job on a corvette or mustang could be done for $1,000-$1,500 including labor.

Yes, your price range is correct. There is a lot more too it than on other cars. Without also replacing the EGS controller (which is the transmission computer) to one that is designed for the car with the specific final gear, the car will constantly be setting off the ESP, and virtually be undriveable. It also costs more because it is made for the Mercedes, a market that has far few customers than corvettes and mustangs. In addition, the parts are imported from Germany, and there are transportation fees, custom fees, and duties that are all included in the cost.

YEAH!!! All I need now is to come up with the money for the mods
I guess instead of paying speeding fines, I'll start saving that money and in no time I'll have the mods in my car
