CLK55 AMG cabriolet

I've heard stories about the W208 AMG cabriolet being a limited edition only available in the USA...etc
I really wanted 1 but wasn't available in Europe.

Anyone cares enough to enlighten my ignorant mind .

I wouldn't mind a few pics either !!

AMG cabs

The article I read in Star suggested that these cars had been available in Europe as a special order vehicle from AMG. I also think I read that their was a very small number of them imported to the North American market, like on the order of 800 or so. Perhaps someone still has that article and can verify my fading memories.

When I purchased mine this past spring, the dealer mentioned that it was a limited addition, and that only 800 were being made. I'm not sure if he was just trying to grease the skids for the possible sale, or if he really had the inside scoop. Regardless, exclusive or not, I love the car. My only regret is that I don't live in a warmer climate where I can enjoy it all year round.

Agreed

I am right there with you...kind of wish I lived in FL, AZ, TX or CA to really enjoy this car. As it is, it sits in my garage in the upper midwest most of the time from October to April. I did have it out last month for some "emergency" use, and these tires really misbehaved in the slush.
My everyday "commuter" car is an '02 GTI with Dunlop snows, and it gets around pretty well.

CLK55 is alive

According to a new story on "germancarfans.com" the CLK cab will include a CLK55 in the line up. Good pics with the story, though I'm not sure if any of them are the CLK55.

If it makes any of you feel better, a convertible in Florida is less practical than you think. I've had a couple, and my experience with them leads me to think they are for tourists only

Most of the year the sun is too intense to drive with the top down during the day; plus they wear down quickly due to the excessive heat and sun. So you find yourself putting them down for the early morning drive to work; but then you have to put them up for the day, 'cause there's a good chance it'll rain here just about every day around 2:PM from April thru September.

So you drop the top for the drive home, but it might STILL be too hot. Oh, and if it rains here, it RAINS. Rain like "I can barely see my hand in front of my face" Rain. Driving Rain. Admitedly for only a few minutes (15 minutes a day, then it's sunny hot and humid again) but if you're driving your ragtop with the top down, that's trouble. And if you're driving it with the top UP, that's STILL trouble 'cause it sqeezes in somehow, usually. Just enough to annoy you! Admitedly I haven't had an MB convertable (mine was a Corvette) so the seal and water-tightness is probably better

Now at night, or on a nice cool early winter or late fall day - nice ride, no argument. But overall I find sunroof or moonroof - with sunshade - much more practical.
