What's the diffence between the 5.5 N/A engine versus the 5.5 supercharged?

Hi guys,

I've just started to think about adding a supercharger like a Kleeman in the future. Nonetheless, engine life and other related parts are always going to be a concerned whenever some much additional hp is added to the car.

So, I was wondering, apart from the supercharger, is there any difference between the 5.5n/a(for the SLK55 and CLK55) versus the 5.5sc(for the SL55, CLS55 and etc). Are the they using the same cyclinders, cams, block, lining and etc.

Also, are there additional reinforcement for the gearbox for sc models.

Thanks.

Regards,

P.

*Does anyone know anything about the Carlsson SC? I understand they are using a Wankel type, compared the Kleeman's Eaton version.

The W211 E55 had lower compression ratio using different pistons and rods

Aside from a lower CR, the 5.5 K engine gets more reinforcement, and more boost, than the Kleemann solution. Both applications seems to have stood the test of time in terms of robustness and long term durability.
