Question BMW 5w30 oil and 04 CLK55 AMG

The technicians poured BMW 5w30 oil in my 04 CLK55 AMG. Is it going to be fine running on that oil? To remove this ad, register today or login if you already are registered!

I think your good to go. BMW uses Mobil 1, just like Mercedes.

Recommended oil for the 2004 CLK55 AMG is either 0W-40 or 5W-40, fully-synthetic. Doesn't matter if the oil is private labeled "BMW" "Audi" etc.

Thanks, guys. According to the brochure I just found, any 5w30 oil is not recommended for AMG.

http://mbworld.org/forums/attachment...7&d=1197668134

However, I found this summary on a BMW forum. From what I understand, BMW 5w30 is similar to Mobil 1 0w-40.

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=265292

What do you guys think?

The Northern America BMW oil is Castro 5W30 which does not comply with MB 229.XX. The M1 0W40 is Group IV which is much better than the Group III hydrocracked stuffs. I would change the oil ASAP.

Change the oil ASAP. If you fill with 5W-40 or 0W-40 you are fine.

If I replace the oil with Mobil 1 0w40, will it mix with the remainder of BMW 5w30? Any potential consequences in this case?

mobil 1 0w40 euro syn

mb spec ,no 30 wt. of any type is approved for use in the amg engine.BS on bmw 30 being the same as mobil 40.that is why they have uniform ratings and that is why you engine needs mb spec oil.

Personnally I like a heavier grade (0w40,15W50) but the 5W30 is not gonna hurt the car. I would run this oil for 3k miles and then chg to a heavier grade and also chg the filter. No sense waisting $$ and chging the oil right away again. I've used 5W30 Valvoline synthetic b4 but like I said I'd rather go heavier.

Next time tell the mechanic you drive a Benz not a BMW.
