FYI: new tyres should always go to the back. I always thought it was the other round. There's a Michelin video on you tube somewhere that demonstrates it really well but I can't find it. This link talks about the same thing.

CLK 55 Tire sizes
Joeljp,
I drive a CLK55 too. (your avitar says you have a CLK 55.....) The factory tire sizes are not the same from front to rear. I must admit that I do not know if all W209 CLK 55's were delivered this way or not, but mine was. I am sure that someone on this site can help me with that info. The rears are P245/40 R17, while the fronts are P225/45 R17, with a corresponding increase in rear wheel width. (at least on the 2003 model). Your link does not address this fact, so the knowledge contained only can pertain to cars with all four tires of the same size. Seems like this is not good info for many AMG owners......I'm sure that many of us are still using the factory supplied wheel and tire sizes. I use two sets of rear tires for each set of front tires on mine. HCUBED |

there's one idiot on benzworld.org who was arguing w/ me about how the fronts of our cars should wear out 2 times as much as our rears because the fronts turn and the rears don't........
i got a kick out of that. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w208...ear-clk55.html |

HCUBED, you're right. I only picked up my 55 a couple of months ago with good tyres, so I've not had a chance to see what size they are.

I replace them as a set. My OE Pilot Sports lasted 16K miles before hitting the wear bars in the rear. The fronts could have lasted another 1 or 2K, but that's it.
Now that I run 18s, I'm hoping for the same result....the rears are wearing fairly even despite having some fun now and then :-)
