The kid with a Neon . . .

So this kid that works for me has been bragging about his Neon, saying it's oh so fast and will certainly blow the doors off of my clk55 as soon as he gets his K&N put on it. He claims his new muffler gave him 40 more HP and now has 245 HP. He asked how much the clk55 had and I said about 346. Then he said as soon as he gets the K&N cold air intake his Neon will have 300 HP! (and that's about the same as 346, isn't it?!?!).

I asked him where he got these HP numbers from and he said from the guy at the parts store where he's buying his stuff.

\I've sunk to a new low. I'm comparing a Mercedes to a Plymouth Neon.

Sand bag and put a wager on it

I'd him and his Neon and then offer to make it interesting...Hustle the guy and teach him a lesson not to mess with AMG

Don't know about that. They may be hunks of crap but they are much easier and cheaper to make big power from than NA AMGs. He may be the one hiding something and doing the hustling.

A tuned Neon can run 12s or faster, but they run out of breath near triple digits....run him from a roll.

The W208 CLK55 is rated at 342 hp.

The W209 CLK55 is rated at 362 hp.

Hope this helps...

I've raced plenty of SRT4's at the race track and not one of them has beat me, not even close. Run him with 100oct gas that will add about 15whp to your car. SRT4 have a hard time hooking up

for under $1000 you can get about 25-30hp more than stock, This is how I did it and would do it if i needed an edge in a race.

New K&N filter +5hp $60
Custom duel exhaust (cat back to stock mufflers) +10hp $400
100oct race fuel +10-15hp 7.99 Gal. (add 4-5 gallons on empty)
I've done all these mods and these kind of gains can be seen at the wheels.

Don't underestimate them. They are quick in stock form, and can be made ridiculously fast for relatively little money. Also, you are better off racing from a dig than from a roll. With just a few mods, he will eat you alive from a roll. Contrary to what was said above, they do not die out near triple digits.

I'm sure you'll rape him with no contest. As to people saying "they can be extremely fast, blah blah blah." What car can't you make fast? I've seen a Dodge Omni run 11's.

The kid sounds like a moron too believing a 40hp gain from a freaking muffler.

+1, anything can be fast. The last line sums it up nicely.

I know plenty of local SRT-4's that would rape my clk.

120mph+traps are just that...120mph+ traps.

Yes, it's still a neon, and that little tin can could very easily make you look silly trying to race him. I personally saw an SRT-4 with less than $1500 in mods run a 12.2 @111mph. 117-120mph trap speeds are starting to become somewhat common with those cars with all of the different big turbo options. The SRT owner mentioned in the original post sounds like an idiot, but it's not wise to dismiss these cars as easy kills or you'll probably end up embarrassed.

Run him from a dig. Unless he has at the least solid motor mounts the front tire will be hopping like Roger Rabbit. Once the turbo spools up they pull hard. The slow ones are usually driver related. (you know, gotta hook up shift the thing) Have fun and be safe, after all, he's just a kid.
