Rims for CLK 55

Hi everyone,

I am the prod new owner of a CLK55 (just purchased this past weekend) and I am already getting the mod bug. I am not too fond of the stock wheels and I would like to upgrade to 18" rims without affecting the performance.

My criteria:

1) Deep dish look
2) Lightweight – I don’t need a rim that inhibits performance
3) No chrome – I am not a fan of the chrome look
4) Strong - I need something that doesn't dent going over a pebble

If anyone can provide recommendations or post a picture of your set-up with the recommended rims that would be great.

My budget at this juncture is $3000

Thanks in advance

Dely.

It will be pretty tough to fulfill all of your criteria with that budget in mind. I have to assume $3000 will be excluding tires, right? I only have a couple of wheels in mind. Would you mind sending me an e-mail or call me directly?

19" SSR GT3 w/ tires is a little over $3,000.

Thanks All

Harris is correct, $3000 is for rims only. I would go up to 4,000 if I have to, but I was looking to do rims and tires for close to that price. However, I am not going to sacrifice looks and performance by skimping.

Ben,

I just checked out the SSR GT3. That is a nice looking rim and the price is very reasonable. That is a good option. Do you know how much they weigh? I am very concern about maintaining the integrity of the ride.

New Wheels

I Started Out With Millies 1000 and There just fine - With the road conditions where I live - It makes no sense in Paying big bucks for them to get bent.
I posted a pic for your review - check tire rack the whole set with S03 tires were 2780.00

HRE Rims

Anyone have experience with the HRE rims particularly the 400+ series? I am looking at the 441R and the 448R. These are some nice looking rims. How does the CLk run on these? I am looking at getting the 18" size. If you have any of these please post pictures.

Thanks in advance.

If you're looking to get HRE's they're going to cost you more than $3k a set. You can custom build these to your specs. If you need to see some pics just click on my link on my sig. If you find anything you like e-mail Peter at peter@wheelexperts.com and he can definitely help you out!

Thanks JamE55

I will contact Peter when the time is right. I am still a few months away from when I intend to purchase these. However, I am pretty sure that I will purchase one of the HRE style rims.

HREs' are pretty nice looking wheels, their 449R don't look bad.

If you ever do need those HREs, I will be here...I can't get to 3K for silver 440R 18s, but we can get pretty close.

Thanks Peter

Actually, I am leaning towards the HRE 441R. I will keep Wheelexperts in mind when I am ready to make my purchase. I am also open to any other suggestion within that price range (low 3Ks).

I'm also leaning towards HREs. My favorites are the 843R, 543R, and 540R. Does anyone know whether I can get the wheel lip in brushed aluminum and the center spokes in chrome? I'm thinking that the brushed aluminum would be more resistent to curb rashes. I'm sure someone would correct me if I'm wrong.

Any HRE dealers out there willing to give me a quote for 19x8.5 (fronts) and 19x9.5 (rears) for a 2003 CLK500?

So ladies and gentlemen, what rims do you think would look the best on a CLK?

In clockwise order from top left:
843R, 840R
543R, 540R

The 800 series are also multi-piece, but look cleaner. They don't have the rivets.

i just got HREs put on my C32, look at link in sig.

You can go 19 x 10 in the rears without any problems, Peter from wheelexperts is who i went thru to get my wheels, he is knowledgeable and very proffesional.

As far as curb rash on those wheels, you must do something really dumb to get curb damage on the spokes before the lips.
