Loss Of Engine Power In 208

I FOUND THIS THREAD FROM AWHILE BACK ABOUT POWER LOSS IN THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEM SOUNDS MORE LIKE IT PERTAINS MORE TO THE 2003 BUT I NEED TO KNOW IF ANY 208'S HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS.

http://forums.mbworld.org/forums/sh...&threadid=33313

I THINK I MAY BE EXPIERENCING A SIMILAR PROBLEM IN A 2001 CLK55.

I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S SOMETHING I DID OR IF I'M IMAGINING IT.

I NOTICED IT STARTED SEVERAL DAYS AGO AFTER I GUNNED THE PEDAL IN 2ND GEAR AND LEFT IT THERE TOO LONG. I THOUGHT I WAS IN AUTOMATIC AND THE RADIO WAS ON SO I CLDNT HEAR THE ENGINE. EVENTUALY THE CAR AUTOMAITCLY KICKED INTO A MORE COMFRTBL GEAR FOR ITSELF.

NOW IT SEEMS THAT OFF THE LINE IT DOESNT HAVE THE PICK UP IT DID WHEN I GOT IT A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. IT ONLY HAS 7K MI. ON IT SO I DONT THINK IT WAS RAN TOO HARD.

***IMPORTANT**** IN AUTOMATIC, WHAT IS TYPICAL RPM MAX BEFORE THE FIRST SHIFT AFTER STOMPING ON THE GAS?

AGAIN, IT SEEMS THAT THERES NOT ENOUGH POWER UP TO ABOUT 2RPM...AFTER THAT THE RPMS RISE TO ABOUT REDLINE BEFORE AUTO TRANSMISSION SHIFTS.

I'M GOING TO TEST DRIVE ANOTHR 2001 55 THIS WEEKEND TO SEE IF I CAN TELL A DIFFERENCE.

ANY IMPUT IS DEFFINITELY APPRECIATED.

Dam, Funny you mention that !

I had a similar problem once, but it appeared to resolve it self, I gunned it at 2nd gear and redlined and then changed to third, but the RPM were still pegged at 7K - the engine finally performed a correction and everything was the normal. As I mention in most of my post, I truly beat the she^t of out my 2001 CLK55 daily and so far so very good! the beast has yet to let me down. The only pain in the A&& is when leafs get inside the air filter.

This seems to happen alot. I had this problem. It felt like my car was a CLK320.

It eas the MAS. The car wouldn't shift right and I had no low end power.

Does the car have K&N's?

NO K&N

WHAT'S EAS THE MAS?

YOU SAID THAT YOU "HAD" THE PROBLEM. WHAT DID YOU DO?

I TEST DROVE ANOTHER 2001 CLK55 TODAY. IT SEEMED TO HAVE A BIT MORE POWER IN 1ST/2ND. WHAT RPM DOES YOUR CAR NORMALLY RIDE AT? WHEN CAR IS AT A STOP DOES RPM STAY ABOVE 0?

STL55, he meant it was the "MAS" at fault which is the mass airflow sensor.

STL55,

I bugged the dealer to replace the Mass Air Sensor. They finally did and it fixed the problem.

Again, no codes came up so there is not much they can do honestly.
