Changes to the 2006 CLK55

The sales manager told me today, that the 2006 clk55 will have
a quad exhaust (4 chrome pipes) instead of 2. He said that they are gonna change all the AMG's to a quad exhaust plus all naturally aspirated engines !

I tried installing another dual amg exhaust on the right side but theres not enough space for the muffler. I had planned to weld the new pipe to the original exhaust pipe but it seems the spare tire holder is in the way!! It sucks...!!

I knew it was just a matter of time. Damn I always wanted dual exhaust. Maybe I'll have to trade up. Sure I'll take a big hit.

Hey Marcus, does that mean the W209 500 will get true duals like the new slk?

i don't think it's possible

I don't think it's possible to retro that sucker onto our 03/04 CLK, since our spare tire is getting in the way........ It's quite G#Y for MB to make changes on a car that is only out for 2 year....(sorry i don't mean to offend anyone)...

And it bothers me as well. I wish Mercedes Benz would be a little bit more consistent with their model line. Most cars aren't revised to after 5 years or more, and it is kind of a bummer that they are already changing the 209 CLK55. I suspect that the face-lifted, dual exhaust CLK55 will probably get the 7 G-tronic as well, and THAT will be a real bummer for the rest of us if that happens. I'm considering trading to an SLK55, but I'm concerned that I'll take WAY too big of a hit. I looked at an NSX a little while ago, and I was told my 8000 mile, 7 month old, $79075 CLK55 was worth $43000. I certainly expected to lose between $15 and $20,000, but not $36,000!! I thought that was insane, and it really bummed me out. It makes me worry about what I can expect to get for it when the SLK's come out. What will it be then? $33,000?? Obviously, it's never smart to trade out of a car before a few years, but had I known about the SLK55, I would have waited for it. Who knows what will happen...

Best regards,
Matt

Dude don't even think about getting a 500 instead just cuz of the paddle shifters, if the 55 has quads for sure, the car would look spectacular.

Quad exhausts can be installed by MB for the CLK55s take a look at the AMG owners club I believe Ronald has had it done.

AMG///Merc the CLK55 will always have a bad resale as long as its got the basic 55 engine. It costs the same as an E55 yet has 100+ fewer ponies...

Most people around here dont feel the CLK55 is worth it simply due to that fact. I suggest you recheck that price though, I think your local stealership was trying to pull one over you.

What !!!!

I usually change my car each year but I was really thinking about keeping the CLK55 longer to enjoy more of its loosened up engines lifespan.

Now I'll have to change.

Pity they didnt get this bit right to begin with.

The AMG quad exhaust can ONLY be done at AMG Unique Manufacturing facility in Germany. And there is NO WAY that AMG will install on US specs W209. Forget about that idea.

Nope. Not even if you ship your car back to Germany and ask them to install it, they still wouldnt do it. It is a part ONLY for Euro spec 209s.

Ronald rom the AMG Owners Club lives in Germany. From what I've read, he paid a small fortune to have it done. For myself personally, I prefer the single sided exhaust, assuming of course that the power output is the same. I agree that the dual exhaust certainly loks better, but I'm sure that it adds a fair amount of weight, and probably disrupts underbody airflow as well...

Speaking of underbody airflow, is anyone aware of any sort of aftermarket aerodynamic undertray, and/or diffuser? Having boned up a bit on aerodynamics, I've learned that the majority of lift reduction can be achieved by a profiled undertray, ala Ferrari 360 Modena. I know that the CLK55 does have some aero-pieces under the car, but I'm interested in finding something in addition to that. I've never been a big fan of wings or spoilers, (I'd remove the rear spoiler if it wasn't functional), buyt I would like to reduce overall lift if possible. So far, the only thing to do that I can think of is to reduce the ride height. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Harris... I've wanted to take the time to do this for some while now, and I'm sorry for not having mentioned this sooner. I think that myself and everyone on the board owes you gratitude for all of the help and information that you have provided on this board, both on the personal, web posting side as well as the business side as well. If you don't actually own Hartonmotorworks, they certainly should be happy that you are an employee. I appreciate all of the time and effort that you have given on this board, from the biggest, most serious issues, to the very insignifigant ones, it seems like you are always there with advice and suggestions. While the reconstruction of my bank accounts are taking FAR longer than I had hoped, I can promise you that when it finally is time to start my "Uber-GT" project, you'll be the first, and most likely only guy I'll be buying my parts from. Thanks again for all of your help and suggestions...

Best regards,
Matt

Horsepower Boost?

What I don't get is why the CLK55 doesn't have the 469HP engine?

My guess: that would increase $$ too much on the CLK. And it will also make the CLK the fastest AMG model, which would not go well with the SL55/E55/CL55 owners.

From recent reviews, the current w209 CLK55 is fast enough! uhh, i don't want to see the CLK taillights too fast when i am in my M3!
