Thumbs up Test drive thoughts

Currently driving a BMW 330CI with 5sp man. Stopped by the MB dealer to glance at some CLK's. They a had a CLK 55 AMG and the salesman quickly got me behind the wheel. Compared to the 330 the seats feld awesome-like sitting in a fighter jet. The interior aluminum trim was cheezy and cheap looking. I like the thermometer style gagues-reminds me of my old 220 sedan that had a verticle speedo. The engine of course sounds great-loud exhaust when you open it up. The ride is definately an improvement over my BMW-roll stability is similar. The steering is not as direct and gives little feedback. Also quieter on the road. Power-lots of power-even though the motor was tight with 75 miles on it.
Over all it felt like a heavier more solid car without the harsh edges of the 330. The penalty for that is less feedback and road feel.
Going to drive the 500CLK next week and will post a comparo.
Cheers

Search for a pre-owned 208 CLK55...wood instead of aluminum pieces.

aluminium

I'm not a great fan of the aluminium either - it doesn't make sense to reduce the choices on the flagship clk.

Have you seen the designo black piano lacquer - looks great with sand leather.

The aluminium doesnt show the dust though
