changing tyres (tires)

I am thinking of changing the 245s on the standard 18" AMG alloys for wider tyres. The reason is to reduce/eliminate wheelspin when flooring the car from launch.

Can I go wider with these wheels ?

What will be the the effect on ride quality ?

How wide do I need to go to solve the problem ?

Which brands, types and widths would you recommend and why ?

Cheers
Paul

well our rims are both 17x7.5 and 17x8.5

the front can fit 235 and the rear can fit 265, but i am told that 265 will bubble out way to much and look really funny(tirerack)

so i went 255, which doent look that weird, if at all, and provides enough traction for me to just floor it without fishtailing

i also went 225 in front because i was told that 235/255 was a bad combination.(tirerack)

so 225 255 is your best bet on stock rims

i also considered michellin pilot Sx MXX3 (porsche tires) but settled for toyo T1-S, since the place i bought them front did nto carry michellin and did nto have bridgestone pole position s0-3's in stock

anyways, i think you will want 225/45/17 and 255/40/17
or 235/45/17 and 265/40/17

good to heard that 265 fit on a 8.5 rim. I was thinking about buying Michline pilot sport cup but they only come in 265 18. If i go with 225 and 265 will the car handle werid ?

oops - my mistake

I actually made a mistake on the stock tyres. I assumed mine were the same as another posters.

Here in the UK the stock tyres are 225 front and 255 rear. To be precise :

Front: Pirelli 225/40 ZR 18's
Rear: Pirelli 255/35 ZR 18's

I'd say from my experience that 255 is still not wide enough.
