letters designate the speed at which the tire can safely travel up to, V-up to 155mph, H-up to 130mph....hope this helps

I went with the M3's. Front 225-45-17 Rear 255-40-17. They don't make a 245. I felt that since the vast majority of winter days, aren't heavy/moderate snow covered streets, that I'd rather go towards the wider sizes.
