clk 63 black series
haha, you haven't seen a few.. you've just seen me! i get around!!

It was a ***** to get mine over the border.. I have a full-post earlier on describing how I got it over... Basically, i had to get it plated in the states, and i got it shipped over in the back of a truck.. I initially tried over the Buffalo border to get it past, but they're like no way.. Because I don't have a florida license, or a work-visa etc... I said i had residence, didn't matter. They said I could get it over for a import fee (i think 11%), but I refused that.. Three weeks later, the guy brought it over in a truck with a few cars on the back, and it got past.. I "take" it back to the states every six months. I've been pulled over a few times, and have just said it's an American car, i'm bringing back in a few months... and I have no problems, even too some dick head cops.. But now that it's here, and it's the only one, I'm happy.

It's basically because Mercedes of Canada didn't attempt to have it in Canada.. It's not that it's illegal, it's just that they didn't put the effort in.. I hear they are bringing over two SL black series...

this car puts the biggest smile on my face anytime i whip it around a corner.

Dude, hats off to you. I think that I saw you on King Street West a few weeks ago across the street from the Brant House. I had to turn the car around to see it live in person. I remember saying to myself that a U.S. guy must have been visiting the Tdot - don't remember which state but it was obviously US.

Any way that we can get one over here even though transport can says that it's not on their list?

You can do a temporary import, which bypasses RIV, to get the car legally in Canada.

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publicati...f5048-eng.html

- The vehicle is entering Canada temporarily for a specific purpose. The allowable types of temporary imports are the following:

a. vehicles imported by visitors for a period not exceeding 12 months, temporary residents (such as students) studying at an institution of learning for the duration of their studies in Canada, or individuals with valid work permits/authorizations for employment for a period not exceeding 36 months;

b. vehicles imported by diplomats, if authorization in writing has been granted from Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, for the duration of their posting in Canada;

c. vehicles imported by visiting military personnel for the duration of their assignment in Canada;

d. vehicles imported by United States pre-clearance personnel and their dependents for the duration of the posting in Canada;

e. vehicles imported for exhibition, demonstration, evaluation, testing or other special purposes. The importer must submit written authorization from Transport Canada, in the form of a Transport Canada endorsed Schedule VII, for temporary importations of this nature;

f. vehicles travelling in-transit through Canada; and

g. vehicles designed primarily for the performance of work in civil engineering construction projects and in maintenance and that are not constructed on a truck chassis or truck-type chassis.

My car is in Vancouver right now with Florida tags....

Do some research and you will find from transport Canada that the car is not eligible to be imported to Canada.

I can keep mine in Canada for a bit then take it back to the states so don't need to import (nor pay the taxes that come with that!).

Here's a hypothetical situation. Say you have or work at an international company and you hire someone from the US to work in Canada. They get a 3 year work visa. They can bring in (drive or ship) any car that's titled under their name for the duration of their work visa, as well as future renewals. The car gets either driven over the border, or shipped to a CBSA bonded warehouse. That person goes there with the title, a copy of their work visa, and you leave with a Form 1 which allows you to register the car in Canada.

I'll leave it up to you to fill in the blanks.

Rage,

I don't know, the inadmissible bit is generally pretty clear.

Got into Banff last night and on my way to Edmonton...4 degrees last night....I guess winter is coming to Banff very quick!

Yes, it's inadmissable through the RIV program, that's the list you're pulling up.

Temporary imports bypass the RIV program entirely. There's guys in town that's done this and brought in euro spec cars.

That's funny that there's 2 Black Series in Canada right now within 100 miles of each other. What are the odds?

If you stop by Calgary, shoot me a PM, it'd be cool to get a picture of both cars together.

My guess is they are the only two in Canada.

Banff today, Jasper tonight and Edmonton tomorrow. Leave for Vancouver Wed morning. I presume that puts us in Calgary around lunchtime Wed? You know the city better than me so PM me some contact details and a spot somewhat close to the transcanada.

Unless you have connections to trusted people in the US, I'd say it's nearly impossible to bring the car over. Shoot me a PM, we can do lunch next week when my car is ready and I can lay out what options you have if you're serious in wanting one here, and let you check out the car.

I have spoken to MB Canada and their only response is that the CLK63 Black Series was only made for the US market not the Canadian market. They will not tell me anything more. I have compared the CLK63 (which is admissable into Canada) and the CLK63 BS (not admissable into Canada) and there does not seem to be any changes made that would make the BS inadmissable into Canada. This has me a little upset. I am going to cause some trouble and get my lawyer to draft a letter to MB Canada asking for a more detailed answer as to why we cannot have the CLK63 BS in Canada. They will probably ignore it but I have to try. Saw one in Calgary and it is awesome.

The CLK coupe (Black Series or not) is not admissible into Canada. I believe it has to do with the child seat requirements.

2000 TO 2009 CLK-Class models [EIS] (see notes), except those listed as inadmissible

The above is directly from RIV. The CLK coupe is admissable just not before 1999

Ahh you're right. I misread. Last I talked to MB Canada about it, they said since the Black Series was out of production, and they would not be able to do a conversion (cluster is the only thing I'm aware of) to make it eligible under the RIV program. I just found other ways to import it.

Does it have a digital speedo readout as well? The Porsches do so you do not have to replace the cluster. Could you check on yours when you get it? If it does then there is no problem.

There is a digital speedo readout that can be configured to display in km/h, but Mercedes still requires a cluster change on all US imported cars for RIV compliance.

Shoot me a PM with your contact info. I'll be more than happy to show you the car, and help you with trying to get one here. Like I said, I've done months of research to figure out how to legally bypass the RIV program to get the car here.
