Thanks for the post
Thanks for posting this. It is becoming increasingly clear that the handling dynamics of the CLS55 are an improvement upon the E55 (which itself is being improved).
There was never any doubt from the outset that acceleration would be closely matched between these two competitors, the M5 and the CLS55. There was never any doubt from the outset that the BMW would be less comfortable but possess superior handling. There was never any doubt that the BMW would be the less physically attractive of the two. What surprises me is BMW's choice of transmission, which I believe will be their achilles heal. Does anyone like their SMG transmission? This transmission doesn't appeal to the purists or the hedonists. AMG gets my business because they know what I like- a fast, good looking, comfortable car that is only less competent than an M5 in circumstances I never seem to find myself- like a racetrack. |

A very nice review indeed
This is more of the comparison I had expected, at least in terms of speed. I am also glad to see also that the steering and damping is improved. Certainly looking forward to getting this car next spring ![]() Wolfman |

Great article! Makes me even more confident that placing my CLS55 deposit tomorrow is the right decision!
