81 300D vs 87 300D
HI, I am a newb and need some advice. I am looking at two different benz, an 81 300d non turbo 5 cylinder and an 87 300d turbo 6 cylinder. Both in very good cosmetic and mechanical condition.
From my research over the past few months I know the 5 cylinder, if well maintained, is a 500K mile car, but what about the 87? I really would prefer the extra power of the 87 but will be running svo/wvo as well. Any advice or opinions? thanx Elroy Jetson |

The 87 has a much better (more powerful, smoother, advanced) engine, but running SVO or WVO is never a good idea (if you actually take the steps to make proper biodiesel, that can be okay). I would say that there are just more things to potentially be damaged on the 87, neither will be a 500k mile car on svo or wvo though.

SVO and WVO are illegal to use as a fuel. Do the right thing. Don't burn them, properly recycle the waste oil and leave the SVO to cooking food like it was made to do.
If you want to buy an MB diesel buy it for the car, the history, the reliability, the economy or the sheer satisfaction of owning one of the best cars ever made. Don't butcher it and abuse it following the destructive, pointless and misguided waste fryer crap fad. Last edited by 240D 3.0T; 02-28-2008 at 07:45 AM. |
