My E320CDI Passed Emissions Test!!!!
Almost unbelievable. I sent my wife to the local MB dealership to get our annual state inspection here in TX but they were out of stickers so she went to one of the local Jiffy lubes instead. The idiots put the exhaust sniffer on our diesel and to my wifes surprise announced to her it passed emissions. They did not even know it was a diesel until she told them. I am floored.

Are diesel car emissions tested in the US? How? Diesel emissions are tested in Europe but it is a different test from gassers.

Diesels are only tested for smoke emissions in counties that require emissions tests.

What it means is that if the observor sees no black smoke for longer than 15 seconds continuously you pass. Wonderful. |

black smoke and mirrors
I am sure when the number of diesel cars hit the sweet spot of say 30% of all passenger cars the following will happen:
1) diesel taxes will skyrocket. 2) stringent emission tests will be legislated into law. 3) diesel cars will be persecuted as harshly as gasoline ones. |

Diesels are already persecuted far worse than g@ssers and have much more stringent emissions regulations!
Diesel engines already run cleaner than g@ssers in every category except particulates (smoke) and NOx. Even those two are already being restricted down to stupidly impractical and uneconomical levels. |

Just to clarify. Here in TX there are yearly emissions test for gasoline engines. Diesels are currently exempt. I just found it amazing that our diesel passed the gasoline emissions test.
