Merc Garage tell me same oil for Petrol or Diesel ???
Is is right that the same engine oil can be used in petrol and diesel engines?
They use Castrol 0w-30 Longtec (aka = SLX Professional or EDGE) Note:- Ireland (where I live has a very mild climate) annual temperature is about 9°C summer mean daily maximum is about 19°C winter mean daily minimum is about 2.5°C |

0w-30 is much too thin for the Diesels even in that mild climate. 5w-40 is the thinnest that should be used.
Above all else it must be a Diesel rated oil. |

Yes, the same for diesels and gas engines.
In the USA the standard is Mobil 1 0W-40. Lots of European 0W-30s are fine. Synthetics, of course. http://www.whnet.com/4x4/oil.html

In any case, read your owners manual first. It will tell you what oils should be used.
