Glowplug replacement?

Hello all,

Saw an '84 300D for sale, owner says he had it for 7yrs, near the end the glowplugs went out and now it won't start. He said the plugs are impacted into the head. Any truth to that? Either way, how much money and work would be involved to replace the glowplugs? Thank you very much,

~Rick

Wasn't ment tho...

Autolite is total garbage. Bosch and Buru are the best.

First of all the only brand of glow plugs you want to use are Bosh NOTHING else will do or matter!
You can try if you want to go for the cheaper brands....but you will have too much pride to come back on here and tell us you should of done the right thing!
Nothing is free and nothing is cheap but you will NEVER regret going with Bosh!
Good luck and keep us posted...

Hi Rick..
I really don't see why they would of impacted them in.But in any case its really not difficult to replace.Different theories and different ways of replacing them. Here's how I do it.I remove all five fuel delivery lines from the fuel pump to each injector. You will need a set of crow foot wrenches to do this.Once these lines removed you will gain better access to each glow plug.I assume its your first time doing this,it might take you a hour or two to complete the job.Take your time its very easy and remember that when you put everything back together, you will have to use the manual pump on the IP to prime it back (remove the air in the lines)the engine will have to turn over a little to start.but it will get going.
If you have any questions email me back and I will help you out.
Regards
Big Dan

I put new glow plugs in my 300td 2 weeks ago. It was having trouble starting in 80 degree weather, now it starts in 40 degree weather like it was new. I cheated and had a shop do it. They charged me 1 hour labor.

Its all good my friend...I hope you were able to see how they did the replacement,so that next time you will know how to do it.One hour is not unreasonable at all.
Good luck
