wats a 230CE worth?

My friend has a 77 230CE sitting around in storage, bright red with black leather interior and 4 speed manual. Its got low km on it. I want to grab it off him and he said to make an offer. it is probably worth a mint? What should I offer him?

Depends, you know... you can lowball at $500-1000.... or since he's a friend, you can be generous by a starting offer at $5,000. But if you have good pics and a better overall description to post then obviously you'll get more accurate comments. Take a long better look at it and give us more feedback. Good luck and hope it's a cherry!

Sounds like a good one. It can be anything from $500-5000 depending on rust and overall condition.

Red and black leather sounds like a beautiful combination, I know I'd love to have that combo.

It's not worth a mint - the 230 was the runt of the w123 gassers. But, with the manual and a black interior, it's probably a real fun w123 to drive. I'd say fair price is $1500 to $2000 if it's in excellent condition - you'll need to find out what it needs. Gotta need something...

Post 230CE Value

Well ;

This car wasn't ever sold in the U.S. so it's a Grey Market , most likely from Canada .

It's horribly under powered for the car's weight , even 240Diesels are MUCH faster .

The air intake system uses a rubber boot that's rather expe$ive and only available guess where ~ the dealer , won't run right once that's cracked and leaking no matter how much goop or duct tape you put on it .

The usual W-123 chassis problems all come in here , if you see rust bubbles _anywhere_ , it's bad .

Look at the battery box as it rusts out and right below it is the suspension mounts

Front and rear windows usualy leak and this allows water to puddle in the footwells and trunk , rust follows .

OTOH , most of these fine cars have ABS and a sunroof and as mentioned , they're much fun to drive .

Being European Spec. they usualy don't have the Klima I HVAC system , that's troublesome to say the least ~ when it's working it's good but the later (post 1981) W-123's have Klima II , a much simpler and better system .

Did you buy it ? .
