A client of a family member is thinking of selling her 1978 300D.
I have not seen the car personally but am told it is white, paint is still shiny and has less than 30K miles on the odometer. I believe it was purchased new by his client and been garaged most of it's life. Though I've owned several Mercedes, I have not experience with the classic models and hoped someone could ball park a value on this one. I could get more details if necessary but really looking for a place to start. Thanks for any input.

This all depends on the car's credentials, and how well it was stored. It may actually need a lot of work if the rubber is worn out, but it really does sound interesting.

As a daily driver it would be terrible. All the oil seals will be dry and cracked (oil leaks), the engine internals will have rust from moisture in the air, the bearings will have acid/moisture damage and the cooling system will have rust. In other words it would only be useful to show off as a low mileage trailer queen.
Personally, I'd much rather have a well maintained one with 300K miles than one sitting for the last 20 years with only 30K miles. With a very good professional inside, outside, underside and engine detailing job, professional photography, a snazzy page, complete records/documents, NO rust and some kind of proof it actually has 30k miles, it could easily fetch over $10,000 on eBay. What you should do is buy it cheap as you can, follow the list above and turn around and sell it for a few grand of easy income. |

Case in point, here is a 240D with 46k miles in nearly flawless condition. It currently has 12 bids up to $10,201.00 with a buy it now price of $18,700.00! List your car like that with a little more professional shot pictures that are a bit larger and it could easily happen for you.
