Does anyone know what tells the Aux fan to turn on? My comes on no matter how cold the engine is. All I know is there is no sensor in the radiator. My car is a 1983 240D. It has 343,000 miles now

The sensor on the A/C receiver dryer (Behind the right headlight). The fan does not get turned on by the engine coolant temperature.

One more ?
If my freon is depleted, would that make the aux fan come on also?

Sorry it took so long: My freon is depleted and I was wondering if that would cause the sensor in the drier to think the aux fan needed to come on?

No, that would prevent it from coming on.
