300ce engine swap

Hello, I have been seriously thinking about dropping a OM602.962(2.5 turbo diesel) engine into a 1992 300ce. I had never seen one and had no luck finding info, except for a short video on youtube. Yes, i checked shumann! Any nformation would be greatly appreciated!

Curious as to why the swap thoughts? Is it for economy or for one of a kind factor?

Swapping to diesel means a lot of other stuff besides the engine. Fuel delivery lines, pump, tank etc. Just a bunch of work.

well, Im a hard up diesel Benz fan but I always wanted a 300CE. I would like to combine my favorite coupe with my favorite engine. Mercedes never optioned a W124 coupe Diesel so also it would be very unique. plus I like projects haha I am aware of the other changes needed but was more specifically looking for someone who has done this before as I have no idea about engine mounting, transmisson and what not.

Interesting project idea. I suppose you could do it but you would probably what more than just the diesel engine, you would probably want the whole car, maybe one that had some slight rearend damage and was totalled. I say you need the whole car so you can swap parts, like vacumm system parts, electrical parts, mounts.

I have replaced evaporators on a few 124's one of which was a diesel and I can tell you the electronics, relays, vacuum stuff and all is quite different. Even the ignition on the diesel has a vaucuum line of some sort going to it so I would think you would need to change ignition too.

Why not a mor emodern OM603? More power, probably better fuel economy and cleaner burning.

If you are into rebuilding engines then just find a donor car with solid inards and strip of everything you need. And then find someone that can help fabricate what you don't have or have to custom. It can be done i'm sure and the reasoning fits the bill. If it were not a passion and just economy you would be wasting your time. But Diesel heads are a rare bread and I have learned that once you get your mind on something they will usually not give up.

Why not go to the E420 if you're doing that

Thats The Plan! Economy is the last thing on my mind. I've only ever bought a diesel version mercedes, my dads got one, my opa has mint 240D in germany, so I guess diesel is in our vains! I bought my first 1980 300SD from my brother and later 1987 300TD from my dad. the reason for not using a 603 is because I have a cheap doner-car available and I would sell my 300D to supliment the build. One other project Idea was to put an om603 into my W124 but I can tell the engine I have will run for ever so no point. also I think the ce would be cooler. Thanks for the input.
