92 300te 4matic light on-help please

Hi all, I just bought a 92 300 te 4matic wagon, the 4matic light is on and the owner said last fall it came on and per the manual he turned it off with the switch next to the battery.
I checked all tires and pressures, then found a torn hose going from the resevoir bottle to the pump. I repaired the hose, topped up the fluid, disconnected the battery for ten minutes, and took it for a drive.
Light still on, no 4wd. Suggestions?

I got a Bently manual with the car, but on close inspection. it is for a 190! The resevoir is on drivers front inner fender and has a line going into belt driven pump, this is for leveling system?
The light that is on says 4matic, also the "bulb out" indicator is on beacuse the p/o removed the 3rd brake light assembly.
There is a knob in front of the battery, pull out and turn.
I read somewhere I can cause a blink code on the light to diagnose the problem. Should I do that next?

Thanks! My 4matic test knob is just in front of the multipin box.
The faq sticky did not address 4matic, but I will keep looking.
Thanks again

Today I tried 3 different things at seperate times as an attempt to reset or read codes for 4matic, first I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes, nada-next I unplugged the 4matic ecu ,nada- last I jumped pin #5 and 1, but not even a blink in the light.
This car was allowed to run out of Hydraulic fluid for Iam guessing 200 miles, then I fixed the leaking hose and filledtank.
Suggestions invited.

The reference to the #5 pin is wrong in the service manuals. It is actually #4. A short cross will get the codes to flash. A long cross will reset the codes.

Today I jumped #4 and #1 and nothing changed, then jumped #4 to ground and not so much as a flicker in the 4matic light.

It is the 4matic light. It says 4matic on the light which is illuminated. An attempt at achieving a blink test did nothing at all to the light.
