I think it is a CDA-9856. Damn thing is awesome. I added the iPod cable and the XM receiver. Works and sounds great!

I have the same headunit and I think its really good. I also have the ipod cable and xm receiver. works like a charm all together!

Steve,
Resize your pictures to 800 x 600. Then go to an image hosting site such as imageshack and upload your pictures. Then when you reply to a post, click the yellow insert image icon located above your text. This pops open a window for a URL address. Copy the URL from the picture at the hosting site and paste it in the window. Hit enter and do it again for additional pictures.

The panel is available through any mercedes dealer. If you look closely they are on all my cars. The pic with all three cars shows the 500e without it's blank panel yet as I had just purchased it. I have bought 6 of these so far, three for the 500E, two for the Black 300E. The rare one is for my 87 Black 300E, it has NO screws visible, and I wish the others looked just like it.
I can get you the part # later. It's cost is about $100.

to post up pictures without attaching them through the MB forum, go to www.imageshack.us and click browse to upload from the folder of the piccies.

Then once uploaded, you'll have certain options on how they are presented on a forum. I suggest using the thumnail link, that way you can see a preview but dont have to download the full photo.

The 87 I bought to learn on. So far with your excellent help I have managed to restore the A/C repair the power steering and replace the Sunroof cable.next on the agenda is the suspension.thanks for looking
