European w124 differences??

The ones I've noticed are on my '85 parts car:
1. Separate courtesy light and sunroof switch
2. Headlight switch with aim adjust knob
3. No elect. box under passenger footwell
4. No power telescopic steering wheel

Any others?

bumpers are shorter

vin starts with model number

possible lack of wood used on interior

may or may not have cruise control

wiring set up for headlights-city lights are front marker lights, turn signals only illuminate when on

Not sure about the rest of Europe but in the UK everthing is a cost option. You can have any spec you like (telescopic steering, cruise, air-con etc) but it's going to cost more.
The climate control is certainly different. It's the manual, dual zone type.

not so sure about this one.

compare w107,w116,w123,w126,w126c euro vs united states d.o.t. spec 5mph bumpers.

check out a w107 from uk e-bay and then look at one on u.s.ebay.

this isn't an issue anymore, i think the bumpers are all the same.

Yep, my import did not have a telescoping steering....
I noticed the interior door lock posts were not mushroom shaped but probably because it had the optional AMG wheel, Recaros and Zebrano dash and door pieces.

One more thing, the spare was steel rim. I've recently seen some 300E's in Taiwan with steel rims and hubcaps.

In the UK even the W140 S-class came with Steel wheels, velour seats etc If you wanted leather, alloys, electric seats, heated seats, door closers and so on, they were all extra. crazy! Mecedes said it was to give us more choice but I suspect it was to make price comparisons (eg. with the US) difficult.

I think the options became "standard" so US dealers could charge higher prices in the US.

I'm still interested in getting the smaller right hand mirror you have in the UK so my mirrors match!

BTW, how do you insert quotes?

Things are a little different now but back in the '80s and '90s the UK was the most expensive place in Europe to buy any car. eg in 1995 an S320 would set you back £48,000. Add to that leather, electric memory seats, alloys, soft close doors, etc and the bill's probably nearer £55,000. How much was an S320 in the US?
My E320 coupe was £46,000 new in 1994!

Do you want me to price up a second-hand mirror and postage?

Copy the piece that you want to quote, hit the 'Quote' button on the reply screen and paste it in.

I'm not sure what S320's cost in the 80's as I only became interested in Mercedes cars in the last year. A friend of mine purchased a CE in the early 90's and I remember he obtained an equity loan from his house to pay for it. I believe it was over $40k US and the car was a couple of years old.

Copy the piece that you want to quote, hit the 'Quote' button on the reply screen and paste it in.
Thanks for the pointer, I never noticed that button.

Absolutely, I am in California zipcode 95125

I was going to see if 300SE mirror's would fit but I would prefer a perfect w124 bolt-on. I would appreciate it!

Couple of things to add here. The turn signals and tail lights of European cars do NOT have lateral reflectors - in addition the turn signals are a dark orange, almost red. When the headlights are on, the front side markers do not light up. In addition there is no rear sidemarker bulb which comes on with the parking lights.

I've had a better idea, pifcat2. Why not e-mail the breakers directly and see if they'll ship to the US? If they will then you'll save the VAT (17.5% tax) and get a better price. Here are a few..
