I am assuming it is similar to my 90 124.
Pull the trim off from around the door lever, this is push fit so a blunt blade is best used take your time so as not to damage the plastic. Slip off the cover around the door mirror, it slides up and pulls out following the line of the frame. Screw off the cover around the door keep. Undolt the arm rest. One bolt revealed when you remove the cover from the door lever. Holding onto the arm rest lift the trim panel up and it should slide up and out. It slides and locks into place it does not pull away from the door like many cars. |

It sounds like 230TErry covered it. I did mine a few years ago. I remember the trickiest past was removing the plastic covers from around the door lever without damaging them. They don't pop out. It takes a combination of prying and sliding (forward or backward, I can't remember) to remove them. This part of the job is not intuitive.

Don't forget the door lock pins need to be unscrewed and remove the seat position buttons too..

Most appreciated
Thank U MB Members for your help.
I will give it a try. the reason i am removing the panel is to swap out the seat adjustment switch. I was wondering is it necssary to remove the whole door panel just to do this or will the switch come out without panel removal? thanx jc Last edited by jcma2ra; 11-17-2004 at 03:26 PM. |

I can't remember, but I guess you'll find out when you remove the plastic covers around the door handle. If you can't access the switch then, you'll have to remove the entire door panel.

Thats true...
The new switch assembly is a two part affair. The outer buttons panel and the inner block. The outer switch plate seem to come out from the door panel But the switch block might need to be removed from the inside of the door panel I will report back the actual process after I do this swap out Thanks |

Sounds like you managed to address the switch, which of course can be swapped out without removing the door panel, but never the less I will through in my 2 cents worth to the topic.
Removal of Door panel. Remove black plastic C clip cover (by door latch) one philips screw, pull downward and it will come off Remove door lock pull (unscrews) Remove illumination light at bottom of door panel. Use small flat blade screw driver to pry it out and unplug wires Remove side mirror cover. Be carefull, the pins holding this on break, you do not slide this up to remove, at least not untill you have popped it loose. Use a small flat blade screw driver to pry the top edge till its free, then pry the lower corner till its free (two pins/tabs) then you can lift it up and remove it. Using flat blade screw driver, pry plastic cover over door handle up and remove. Remove seat switch buttons, these pull off. Remove seat switch cover, this can be popped off using flat blade screw driver. Remove seat switch, two philips screws, unplug wiring. Using flat blade screw driver, pry up the door handle bar, so that it pops free of the actual door handle. Unbolt door panel arm rest, 10mm socket needed. While pulling out slightly on the door panel arm rest (so it clears the door handle), slide the door handle assembly away from the seat switch (depends upon which side your doing left/right), then you can pull it straight out. The next part is tricky, especially if the panels have never been off the car before. They do not pull outward, you need to slide the entire door panel up, releasing all of the clips and popping the top of the door panel loose. Do NOT pull it, use a 2nd person if necessary to keep flat pressure against the door panel as you push upward, the panel will come off. If you do this correctly, you won't break any of the black plastic tabs that secure it to the door.
