2001 E430 Sport Front Catalytic Converter

My CEL light came on and the shop said it's my front passenger catalytic converter. I've researched cats here and found that people have success with the Magnaflow 53005. However, I'm not clear if this will work on the front/primary or only the secondary? Can someone help me out?

Thanks,
Bob

You mean the pre-cats? The Magnaflow 53005 is a full size cat, the pre-cats are pretty tiny right? If I where you I'd have a shop take them off, there's no harm done, it sounds better and you'll still pass emissions.

Yes..the pre cats

I'd like to purchase a magflow and have it spliced in. I don't know what size to order. That's why I'm asking if anyone has had a magnaflow spliced in for pre cat.

I havent used Magnaflow but had both changed using Eastern universals and havent had any issue's.
Installation costs me $130 each......Far less than the stealership

What model number for eastern did you use?. I checked and they said they don't have one rated for an E430.

Bob, the Magnaflow 53005 is a replacement for the rear cat only. You may have to get a direct fit assembly to replace the front. They're about $400 unless you live in California where the only legal option is to get the part at the Mercedes dealer for over $1000. The advantage of a direct fit assembly is that it's a pretty easy diy.

Yes it is good

if as above stated it is the big cats under the middle of the car that are rattling like a can of rocks. Eastern cats google them or racepages.com are also good universal cats unless as stated you live in Ca.
In that case magnaflow has production ready in about 10 weeks CARB calif approved splice in cat for the secondary cat application. No prices avail yet.
