K&N Filter-yes or no?

I remember reading a few threads back saying these things are bad for our MAF's.

My friend put one in his A4 and his 328i and it came alive. Definitely improved sound, acceleration, overall breathing of the car.

For those with the knowledge and experience, should I get one or no?

I would also like to know, I have a c43 that had k&n filters when i bought it.. should i take them out? thanks. And is the reasoning the "wet" style filter is bad for the electronics?

No

noise does not equate into performance.
His time slips did not improve, his butt dyno did
Besides the maf issue which k/n will highly debate the k/n filters have shown to pass 8 times the size particles that cause engine wear after just 30 minutes of installation.
snake oil that can do harm is even worse than snake oil that does nothing.
keep a fresh air filter oem style for 13 bucks or whatever from www.autohausaz.com every other oil change and you will have all the air you need.

stock filter and not butt dyno

I ran K&N for years with no problem, as many other members here do who understand not to over oil them.
However, after reading a real study showing exactly how much more particles are let through versus stock paper, I switched back to OEM. I did sense a bit more pep using K&N, but engine longevity is more important to me than the extra 50 horsepower.

That said, I still have 2 filters anyone can have for cost of shipping and a six pack.

And yes, i'm kidding about the horsepower.

i'd keep them. i've been running the same set of K&Ns in my C32 for 6 years and they work great. Engine running great and not suffering any ridiculous debris noticeable in oil changes, etc.

the MAF sensor issue comes from people who don't give the air filters sufficient time to "dry" after the cleaning and re-oiling process.

you will pick up maybe a hp or 2, notice increased throttle response, and a little louder intake noise.

At least the old phrase

"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds"

still rings true in the face of evidence to the contrary.
No wondering why low mile C43's go for dirt cheap on the EC

I will send my K n' N to any individual wanting it for shipping only. Your current OEM filter will flow more air than your motor can draw. I have been on a Dynojet with a 70' Boss 302 at 463 hp at 6800rpm with no change in hp or torque figures between standard filter and the K and N except that the venturis of the Holley carb had residue after the K and N was used, properly dried of course.

I have a 1997 Dodge diesel that had a k&n air filter. Over the years, the "fuzz" on the filter started coming apart, and ate my turbo, and who knows how much more damage. k&n never even answered my email.

I use stock air boxes and stock paper filters on all my euro's, best money I've ever saved.
