When do they need to be change or when should they. Do I need a special tool? I have a 2001 E320 wagon, and they are difficult to get to.
Is there something I should know?

They need replacing

every 100000 miles. There is one key tool needed: a special boot puller spanner (you can get from ohlord). The rest are simple tools such as a 3/8 ratchet with a couple of extensions, and a slim 16 mm (5/8") spark plug socket with rubber insert. Torque value is 28Nm. Some people do it very with torque wrench, some don't. I consider it important to torque them to spec. Hope it helps.

Cheers

greyvan,

Sorry, did not realize you're a new member - welcome to the forum then. I have a 4Matic wagon also.

ohlord is a forum member. You can also find some excellent stickies and DIYs here:

Spark plugs every five years

or 100,000 miles--it's in the owner's manual.

Use Bosch or NGK 7090 plugs with the single side electrode--do not use multi-tip or any other snake-oil plugs, according to ohlord.

Bosch 7422

is the correct Platinum plug for the M112 engine. Stay away away from the other Bosch Platinum types. There have been bad reports by other members in the past.

Cheers

Thanks, I would assume that's the single ground type. Hey I see on your car it says E320S4, what does the S4 stand for?

NGK 7090 single-side electrode platinum plug.
.039 gap, use no anti-seize, they are bivalent plated.
$3 each, and they'll last 100k.

Or Bosch 7422, about 4 bucks.

You'll be needing the 17mm Mercedes boot tool. You can get one of these from Ohlord.

S is the designation for the wagon as the W is used for the sedan. So, S210 is a wagon and S4 stands for 4Matic wagon.

Hi
I pulled a couple of plugs and they look just fine. My guess is someone changed them not to long ago, I got the wagon with 109k mi on it. I do have a pretty noticeable miss at idle, not really sure when moving along. What's a go way to locate the Problem? Is it common?
Help

Looks don't tell the story

or at least the whole story.
Check the gaps. They could look fine and gap at 44tho.

Hey,
What should the gap be? And if it is OK what would you look at next?
Thanks
