Sneaky ECU reset from the E55 forum

Figured what the hell, and gave it a shot per the instructions someone posted. I get her out and punch it from a start and it feels weird....a bit unstable. I am like great, I broke something, then I realize it is pulling like a friggin freight train and my a$$ is wiggling. I can't wait til the ECU sets me up this way....maybe better, that would smoke.

Anyway proceeded to do some launches and I can really tell a difference in shifts. Someone said it best....feels like the car had a tune up or something.

I COMMAND all of you to try this (well if you are not happy with your current setup). I just know now my car set me up wimpy due to long highway miles after driving back from Klee. Enjoy!!!

1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.

2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.

3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.
For those who have not ventured into the E55 forum lately, check out this thread by Jakpro1 https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/148019-holy-crap-you-guys-sneaky-ecu-reset-works.html

I tried this on my E320 and it worked, it's like I got a tune up, much better response from the transmission now. Try it out and see what you think!

No it will not mess with the powerchip mods. This just resets the throttle response and transmission times back to OEM specs. It will not touch the powerchip binary in any way.

Hi,

Thank you for point this out!

We have had our E240 since 2003, its only been used for city and short distance driving (usually around 50km/h). Its has only run 1900km in 3 years. However, I always have the feeling that the transmission doesnt run smooth and the engine is very "tight".. The fuel consumption is much higher than the C240.. I think this reset will help but I have a few questions..

Can someone please tell me if I will get any confirmation messages on the display after you have released the gas pedal? Do I get any dialog on the display at all?

does this reset thing work on my W203 C240?

Thanks,

Mike

Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position?

Ok, when you say "not start position", you mean do not start the car up right? And there are 2 positions before you start the car up. Do you mean the 1st position, or the 2nd?

Thanks in advance.

I usualy do this re-set every 6 months or when I think my car is not up to par.... this works like a charm! Exactly what the post mentioned... just like getting a "tune up".

Tried this "reset" on friday and noticed a change in my acceleration. Looking at the tachometer while accelerating, it seems as if the transmission is shifting faster.

Didn't notice the car pulling any harder than before. Maybe my SOTP is broken. I did notice the lunging near a dead stop disappeared after the reset. We'll see how long this will last though.

So it didn't seem to make a difference on my E500 yesterday so I tried it on the S500 today. WOW! I can tell a huge difference with the S500 as the car pushes much harder than before. I wonder if it's because I always drive my E500 hard and the ECU already mapped the tranny to shift hard?

So what's the "off position" in Step 3 of the instructions? The key has four positions:

1. Insert/remove
2. "Accessory" position
3. Run
4. Start

After pressing and holding the pedal, is "off" position 2 or position 1? The engine, if running, shuts down in position 2, but accessory power remains "on."

Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.

1. Insert/remove
2. "Accessory" position
3. Run
4. Start
"Off position" that worked for me is position (1). "On position" was position (3) above. Amended instructions with key positions to chart above...

1. Turn the ignition key to the on position (position 3).

2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.

3. Turn the key to the "off" position (position 1 -don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal. - make sure to keep the gas pedal to the floor while turning the key to "off", release the pedal after the key has been turned to "off"

4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset

Good reading on the E55 forum for this topic, those guys have 75 posts on this thread. I have reset twice, first time was great and the second time a few days later not so impressive....probably because I did it on my way home before leaving work and all of the traffic got my shifting points in the wrong positions. Time to reset again!

I'm going to try this on my 2001 E320, 57,200 miles. I have been noticing delay on shifting gear for last couple of months maybe this will be fixed.

I have "Check Engine" light on, and recently had my oil changed and noticed there's some oil under the transmission, seems like it is leaking. Does anyone know what I need to do or how much it'll cost to fix this problem? Thanks!

You probably have a bad air mass sensor, and the transmission leak will likely be under $200.
