I'm in he US, actually. I'm assuming that means that I can't make the appropriate COMAND changes without StarDiagnose? It seems that others were successful changing their units to ECE-typed ones. Have there been changes to the '06 COMAND that prevents the setting changes from taking effect?

So anxious to get an answer to my question, I jumped the gun.

My last question still stands:

I've had no problems using the 3-5-7 trick to get into the hidden/secret menu. And I've had no problem changing the setting to 211 ECE (or 240 ECE, also available on my COMAND unit). The changes seem to be holding (not reverting to the originals) after shutting down COMAND and waiting a while.

Problem is . . . nothing happens. No Brit Chick, no loss of "Home" soft-button, and certainly no RDS.

Any thoughts/ideas?

This has been discussed on this board a zillion times. Do a search. The quick answer to your question: Forget it, you can't do it with your head unit.

I was able to access the menu and change the current setting to the European setting on my 05 E500 with nav. I can play DVD mp3 (always could play CD mp3s) and I do have the female voice on the nav now. However I was not able to play any DVD videos. I don’t know how NitroShredder was able to play DVD movies.

Damn,

Then the new ones don't have DVD audio capability unless we swap out for the euro ones. Another reason to get it, I guess (along with DVD Video).

Hey got one of the first 2006 models build date july 2005 E320 CDI and i can get into the 3-5-7 screen, still trying to see what i can do in there....its a canadian model...i've had no problems with using mp3 cds but in the process of trying dvds...just got the amg splash screen to work...

i had an '04 but i dont know when it was built.

i had NAV in my car.

i tried the 3-5-7.

i suppose to keep the keyboard setting to w211USA right?
and i've change the next setting to w211ece too.

but after i restart the car or turn off the the HU, nothing happened.

i tried to press the 3-5-7 again and the setting is still the same but nothing has changed.

How were you able to get your car to play DVD Mp3's. I could only get it to play CD mp3's. Also i am able to play ONLY the audio portion of DVDs. I have an 05 Sl500.

Also can you get your changer to play MP3's?

What software did you use to burn the mp3's to the DVDs.

I went through HELL looking for solutions to play my huge collection of mp3's before I received my CDI. In the end, everything was built in.

Just to clear the air once and for all, the North American standard COMAND units in the 2005's will PLAY mp3's burned on cd's AND DVD's. Period.

Before that, I don't know.

As far as playing VIDEO DVD's, so far, no one has found out for sure if the 2005's standard COMAND units can play videos.

After almost a year, the tip about pressing '5' briefly before the other keys has resulted in my finally finding the screen in my 10/05 E320 CDI.

Unfortunately, I can set the keyboard to "W211 ECE", but all of the choices in the "MODEL" menu are "USA"."

As I mentioned in a previous post, some time ago I spoke with a Becker tech who mentioned that there was a lower-cost version of the COMAND that came out for the U.S. Market. I'm guessing that I have one of these.

Mine seems to work every time I try it but with nothing useful as a result. The only thing that seemed to change was the AMG splash screen when changing models. The ECE, USA options made no difference.

My '05 CDi would play DVD mp3's, my '06 does not.

As far as I know, only the '05 E class could play DVD mp3's. As for which software I used, it was Nero and I burned it as an ISO data disk.

I got it to work last nite. Not sure why it did not the first time used Adaptec Software.

I love this feature so many Mp3 to load up on the DVD.

Does your Changer play Mp3 CD's?

I just screwed up my command system by setting to W240 ECE mode. Now all my keys are wrong and there's no way for me to get back to the hidden menu to change it back.

Is there a way to reset the command system? Read somewhere about unplugging and re-plugging the fuse for command system, would that work?

Just dont want to bring it to service before I try to recover it myself.

My car is 2004 E500 w/ premium package. Build date 1/04.

SilentWind – Is that a Native American name, African American name (i.e.: CoolWind), another term for farting?

Anyway, you better hope someone here on the forum helps because as far as your dealer & MBUSA are concerned TSB P-B-82.85/437 FEB05 – Erroneously changing background, keyboard functions in vehicles equipped with COMAND head unit specifically states the repair is NOT covered under warranty.
