Hmm, not a fan. The interior looks cheap, got to sit in one 2 months ago. Interior looks like GLK meets C-class

Major cost cutting going on at Daimler. There has to be, they have no choice these days.

And they are introducing a new version to the world but with a reduced price tag. Think about it.....

Or they have reduced production, lowering their variable per unit costs, while fixed costs naturally decrease over time... FC + VC = TC

Furthermore, with lowered production and cost-cutting, quality should improve because in the short term, the only thing they can do is fire people to increase the marginal product of labor.

In the medium term, they will be able to lower wages while still commanding higher output per worker, directly lowering the capital inputs necessary create the end product... (this means lower price)

Doesn't look, feel or drive any cheaper than my 07 e-350...

Definitely doesn't drive cheaper, and looks are of course subjective (I can say something looks cheap because it resembles a car at a lower price point, and you can say the opposite, for example), but I can point out a few small details here and there that are of cheaper material than the W211.

I hate the Sonata tail lights!! that AMG badge on the rear looks 'fake' with those lights ... front is not bad, love the headlights ... Interior is more gadget~ish, but flat like avalons .... must be fun to drive with the Driver's eye-movement sensor, hwy speed-limit warning, I'm sure suspension would be better too - Definitely not a head-turner though - cant believe that Amg badge over Sonata lights - Damn I cant get that out of my head

Extremely sexy.
I saw the new E from my rear view mirror couple days ago, the new design give me this "get out of my way" WITHOUT trying! ( unlike other car need to aggressively tailgate and zoom by )

LOL, I actually moved to right lane only to find out he wasn't even speeding.

These next few years are going to be extremely interesting. The new E, the new 5, and now Audi is introducing the A5 Sportback:

I hate to say it, but I think with this late-to-the-game cubism approach M-B is going with amongst other things, it's gonna be tough for them to keep car enthusiasts choosing the new E over its competition. However it's still hard to predict how things will pan out until the F10 5-Series' pics are released and the next CLS' are as well.... as I'm assuming (and hoping) M-B is going to give the CLS a much more organic and sporty look to further differentiate it from the E-Class. As for the A5 Sportback, I think it looks pretty damn hot in those pics, but need some close-ups of the details before I'll know if I personally will really like it or not....

The current consumer climate, and variable costs (which everyone faces all the time anyway) is problematic for MB (and everybody else) in respect to economies of scale. Expenses rise of course, as revenue rises. So, save 50 cents on the knobs by using the ones from the C Class.

But there's the very costly risk of a lower quality workforce if you decide that labor is the way to insure against cost per unit.

I read last month a Der Spiegel article about the new breed of 'unloyal' Euro auto employees in these times of wage and benefit decreases and unknown job security. It's an issue that might be more volatile than the manufacturers realize due to the previous climate of job security and benefits that were normally assumed by Euro employees before the downturn.

I'm digging the interior, was never really a fan of the curvy dash on the W211. Made it seem feminine.

Even if I did like the looks of it (still can't get over the rear end; I was behind one near the dealer's yesterday and it looked so Lexus bland and boring), I'd wait until a few years. Maybe when the first face-lift appears.

My granddaddy told me to never buy the first build of anything; I'll let others be the guinea pigs....

That puts me in a perfect place. Some good years living with my W211 E63, and then maybe (?)..... although by that time the competition will be beckoning me, too. 550i/M5 anybody ?

The only thing i like about W212 E63 is the front LED light like Audi.
So W212 doesnt come with Fog light anymore ? ?

There are foglights, but they're put into the headlights. I saw one at the dealership the other day and I noticed two sets of projectors. I immediately assumed that this would be like the S-Class, W220, I think. When you order P2 package with the W212, the LED's are standard; bottom foglights are the 'bottom-of-the-barrel' for W212.
