I'm with you but it will be too late for my car which is supposed to be arriving on or around December 7. In my opinion, the "sport" configuration should have the shift on the center console like the Coupe does.

Shifter on the center console is a no go for me. Not only do you lose storage space and the better cupholders, you have paddles on the steering wheel to shift when needed. Now that I am used to it, I much prefer the column shift and paddle shift combo. Hell, it works on the Ferrari so that is sporty enough for me.

Having console shifters for the past 25 years was a habit that was hard to break, however, I agree that I now prefer the column shifter. I like the cup holders and finger tip control for the gear shift. The car has lost a little of the sport sedan look without the old shifter but I can live with that.

Hopefully I'll come to like the steering column shifter after I get my car and drive it for awhile. The paddle shifters are nice but shifting through the gears with the console shifter on my BMW (in Drive Sport mode) is fun. From reading other posts it would appear that most people come to like the column shifters/paddles. I guess it's what your used to.
The advantage of having the controller at your finger tips is very nice as is the extra storage and cup holders set up. It's all a matter of trade offs. It's got to be better than my BMW which has a console shifter and I-Drive controller at my finger tips with NO storage and HORRENDOUS cup holders in the dash board. Of course we BMW drivers don't care about things like that - we just care about "driveability". That's what a particularly obnoxious BMW sales person told me when I was looking at the 550i and I commented about the lack of storage and the cup holders. He asked me what I drove and I told him an LS430. He then proceeded to tell me that Lexus drivers care about things like that while all BMW drivers care about is "driveability". I wound up buying the car - but from another dealership. I then called him to tell him that he had lost a sale!
