I have an 08 GL450. Took a closer look at the floor mats and I can honestly say that my $14k Mitsubishi has nicer ones. no joke. I think the 07's came with ones with ridges at least. Mine look like straight cheapo homedepot carpet cutouts. c'mon, at least put a logo or something on it.

Those of you with 08s, do you also have these? Or is this a dealer specific thing?

Thank goodness our '08 came with the smooth " carpet " mats - so easy to clean . A friend has an '07 with the rough feeling ridged mats and they are a pain to clean - the ridges act like a Brillo-scrub pad and trap every piece of loose shoe debris and resist vacuuming - you resort to plucking things out with fingers from the hundreds of tough fiber loops .
Unfortunately, that is still the only style for the optional third row mats , so for us '08/'09 owners , the front two rows don't match the third row mats . Cheap of MBZ .

I like your "less is more" attitude.

Your GL should have been delivered with OEM "carpet" floor mats in the same color as your interior. Always possible that your dealer did a switch with some off-brand specials. I asked my stealer to keep the carpet floor mats in the factory plastic (I still have if anyone is interested). Used the OEM cargo & floor liners instead (made by WeatherTech). IIRC, now the 2nd & 3rd row are available (from WeatherTech) in one-piece vs. two-piece.

Original poster's '08 DID come with the cheaper-looking smooth " carpet " mats . He was stating that the '07s came with ridged , and I assume to him more expensive looking mats , but those came with the down side I reported. Perhaps MBZ changed them due to complaints that I pointed out. BTW, the quality of these smooth mats is not much different than on our prev German built E Class wagon.
If you want to see really cheap OEM mats , look at the ones on my 911 Turbo.

I bought the MB all weather mats for the third row in my GL. They would match your smooth mats better than the brillo pad mats.

I have a black interior , so even with all the time we spend up at Tahoe in the winter , the std black carpet mats hold up fine-even visually . In fact, when I had OEM black all weather " rubberized " mats in prev tan-interior ML 430 , they showed dirtiness much more, as light mud on them dried into unsightly blotches of " sandy" sediment.

I just purchased fronts/2nd/and 3rd row Weather tech all weather black mats plus the adjusting cargo mat off their website. I've used their products in the past and they worked well for our winter weather in New England. I got the digital fit mats which on their pictures goes over the middle hump instead of their two piece which exposes the middle hump.
Altogether about 360+ shipping.
