Would the GL550 wheels look awkward on the GL450?

21 on a GL450
It will not.. i currently run 22's on my 450 and looks great with running boards as well. Adding the fenders from the 550 will run you about 1300-2000 painted and installed by a professional body shop.

It will unless you add fenders b/c the rim offsets are different = What you said about the rim/tire sticking out too far. You could probably find similar-looking style that would bolt on without the issues by looking around.

GL 550 wheels have 37 mm offset, GL 450/320 wheels have approx 53 mm offset whether 18 or 19 in diameter, which means the CENTER LINE of the GL 550 wheel/tire " sticks out " 16mm ( 2/3 in ) farther . Has nothing to do with diameter, as a set of 26 inch dubs with 53 offset will
"fit " narrow fendered GL 450 better than 19 inch aftermarket wheel with 37 mm offset , assuming overall rolling diameter is maintained stock via tire width choosing, forgetting practicality for the moment . So as stated above , w/o the GL 550's fender flares , your GL 450 will look kinda like a low rider and you might sand away your side paint with all the road grit thrown up by those big tires sticking out, not to mention the rooster tail of blinding water you throw up behind you in a rainstorm- the latter is very carefully monitored in Europe and leads to manufacturer fines . That's why OEM cars, even sports cars , cannot push tires aggressively to the fender wheel opening lip edge , so the reason for aftermarket wheel spacer kits . Someone posted a parking lot picture here last year of a 450 w/550 wheels and it looked fine. 16mm on the outside offset is nothing with the clearance on a GL, and the tires were not sticking out past the fenders.

I have the GL 550 wheels on mine and it looks fine, they don't stick out.

I have the GL550 AMG wheel on my 450 also and I think they are awesome looking. The fit pushes the limit of the fender but it works.

I have a 2008 320 CDI with the new 2010 AMG 21".
It looks fantastic and there is not issue with the rain (and we had a lot in Atlanta!) I will post pictures later. Help! What is the correct tire pressure? |

I do not think you need the guards.
