wtf... killed by crossfire

ok, just so everyone understands, i use this forum for very useful info. I want to ythank everyone for their posts on a myriad of subjects as it has been quite informative, insightful and sometimes funny.

with that said I present the following for your amusement.

While driving to El Paso to visit some friends, I was cruising at about 120.

perfect driving day, no traffic, no peep from the radar detector, unlimited visibility.

saw something in the rear view coming up quickly so I slowed down to about 90.

a black crossfire passed me like i was standing still. i saw brake lights so i figured he wants to have some fun too.

i punched it and took it to about 120 and i caught up.

no markings on it, just all blacked out.

we rolled down our windows and gave each other the 'nod', and i punched it.

i got ahead about a car length and he blasted by. i took it to 155 and could not catch him.

i have run against srt-6's, vetts and other assorted high lines but this was different. i get smoked by the higher power cars but with my mods i'm prob pushing 400 hp +/- and i have never experienced that level of
being left in the dust!

now the question is, what kind of crossfire is this. anyone know?

SRT-6 Crossfire, they have the same engine as the C32 AMGs. Might have swapped the supercharger for a turbo...

There are some pretty fast examples of C32s out there, I'm sure that this guy's similarly modded. FI cars can be modded pretty easily to pick up gobs of horsepower, check out the BMW 335i/135i times stock/modded, an amazing performance gain for $650 or so...

+1....and no. there is only 1 srt6 currently turbo'd on record between mbworld and the srt6 crossfire forum....and it's in chicago.

not sure if you are aware....but most of the highly modded srt6 crossfires (C32 AMG motor M112k - supercharged V6) with my mods (or similar) are making my (or similar)power (360whp and 380wtq) on a dynodynamics and weight only 3200-3300 pounds. But of course, its what counts at the track, not on the dyno.....so in that case, the highly modded srt6s consistently run high 11s/low 12s.....trapping north of 116. some have hit 117 and even 119. there IS one out there with a big nitrous shot that runs high 10s. i dont remember the color

btw, your sig says you have a clk55 and you are pushing 400hp. i'm assuming you arent referring to the wheels, but rather the crank....unless you have forced induction or spray.

i was being conservative. this engine was completely gone thru, ported, polished, bored and stroked. i have the best of everything that a street machine can hacve. i spared no expense so that I CAN cruise at 155. yes, i know i don't have any mods in my sig. i choose to remain as anon as possible.

as for the srt6 fans, this was not a standing start 1/4 drag race. this was done on an open road at 120 mph. i watched this guy take off from me and could not catch him. maybe i'm not painting the correct pic. i got ahead of him then he shot past me like i was standing still. with nitrous, he could have shot past but he pulled steady when i lost him at 155.

Well, keep in mind: if a car is faster by several mph in the 1/4, then beyond that range it will pull away in a more pronounced fashion. For example, if you look at the 0-100 time for a 210 E55 vs a 211 E55, the difference is slight (about 1.5 seconds), but from 0-150 it's h-u-g-e, about 11-12 seconds (23 sec or so for the 211 vs 34-35 for the 210).

So actually, in a 1/4 mile standing start race you may well have stayed closer than in a 120-160 race. If for example he's trapping at 119 to your 110-1-ish or so (which is where you should be with 400 crank in a 3800 pound car w/driver) he'd run away at those speeds, not walk.
