ML55 FUEL GAUGE PROBLEM

y Ml55 AMG has a fuel GAUGE problem , in that it will read correctly until empty, but something about filling it all the way up makes the needle go directly to empty until I burn 1/4 tank then is works normal again. I have replace the pump and GAUGE assembly in the tank, very aware of how the leveling arm sets in the tank. Yes I read all the manuals instructions for installation. Every thing was working just fine untill I topped off
the fuel tank one time and then it started this problem all over again..

I hope people read these blogs and have a real smart answer for a change.
Like to know what the real problems is or is MB just selling old crap they have
left on the shelves. My be they just don't give a crap !!!!!

fuel sending unit

if it reads good sometimes, and then often is wacky...it's starting to go bad, and eventually will never read...fuel sending unit, common.

dies like clockwork, everyone has to replace it in these cars...mine did...

My 01 ML55 has done exactly the same thing since I bought it 3 1/2 years ago. It was like that when I got it. I can usually fool it by turning the key to the on position and using the slowest position on the pump handle to fill it. Otherwise I just reset the odometer every time I fill up and I never partially fill it. It is a common problem w/ essentially all of them. I talked to the dealer service guys here in St Louis and they literally told me "we have never seen that before, must just be your truck". They suggested replacing the sending unit to the tune of $1100. I am going to just continue the odometer reset.
A class action would seem to be in order.
