Partially right. If I recall correctly, both SWB and LWB are available in Europe. In the US we only get the LWB.

Actually, i didn't say they don't sell the long wheel base, I was just letting him know about the short wheel base, something most Americans have never seen.

im sorry if the short s class confuses you

but this is Deutschland ...

you can order the S also as the short version and yes as a 500
(it is not called 550 over here), actually i have even seen an s63 last week at the dealer which was a short version.

the 600 and the s65 are only available in the long version

and i dislike all kinds of badges, because in my opinion there is no need at to put any badges on cars, i even took off the avantgarde badge on the w210

so the S was ordered wthout badges, i don't know if you can order cars in th eUS without badges, but over here you can.

and we don't choose extras by packages i can choose from every single extra available and put together the car I want, and i am not suffering from your US probs of not getting what you want.

the car war ordered in january 06 and i wen to pickt it up from sindelfingen in april 2006, not a single prob so far and approx 12 thousand KM

and because this is a pic thread let me add a picture

and please stopp accusing anyone of anything...this is actually so german what u just did

So is it only we Americans who have to struggle to get options we want? What did we ever do to you to be treated like this?

We can't order our cars without badges. We have to take them off ourselves. Which I'm thinking about doing on mine. Do you have any full shots from the rear of your car that you could post? It might help me make up my mind since my car is black also. Thanks.

Your car looks terrific...some great images too!

The problem is with MBUSA who has responded to many questions about options and it is always the same. They do marketing studies to determine what would be the best options for the US market and then define what will be available on any specific model. The problem is they are apparently asking the wrong people! It is pure stupid on a $100K+ car to be restricted on what you can spend to make your car more personal. The reason MB is fighting to maintain their leadership in luxury cars over Audi, BMW and others is the ineptness of MBUSA to market the products so they appeal to the US buyers. Until they make ALL the options available to the EU market available to the US market we will be second class users of their products and they will be moving down the sales charts. They also should learn how to build a web site that is responsive and interactive.

It really is amazing how clueless/stubborn MBUSA is. Like, who's brilliant idea was it to take multicontour seats away from the E-class.

I like the look of the black car without badges. I'll probably end up doing the same. I'll just have to find the location specs (or measure them myself) so I can put badges back on for resale.

Really? Well, my apologies to MBUSA then. I thought that was their idea.

Anyway, back to the pics...

You have extremely cheap cars. I'd gladly prefer to get such cheap cars with less options any day...

Overall diameter of the tire is still the same, it just means that the sidewall is an inch lower (for a two inch all-around expansion of the wheel). I have seen the 17 inch wheel combo on the new S when I was in Europe last year. That is a very cushy ride set-up, but the car did not look as lithe as it can. The S cars I saw with them were also predominantly short wheelbase models. Gave the S a completely different flavor.

I am planning to take a seven coutry trip by car in Europe this coming summer, mostl likely late July to mid August. I will be with one other person, and we will drive accross the countries starting in Milan, continuing into (briefly Monaco) France, take the tunnel into the UK, than back into France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and back into Italy. My two vehicle choices are the 221 (most likely a CDI model) and the SL (most likely a 350). The SL may be wishful thinking because it is short on luggage space, therefore I may end up with the S. I am looking forward to Summer. Of course, if I were to convince myself of a new MB, I could end up doing the trip with the rental until Germany and complete it with my possible European delivery S600 (if sport is available) or S65--but it is as yet unlikely.
