Yes thank you Trumpet for taking your time to do this!

Isn't it amazing how great it feels save $170 on a DVD when we don't really think much about spending $100k to $200k on a car.
Just goes to show Its not so much the size of the deal that matters, but just getting a deal.

It probably is protected from copying but I'll try anyway using my v.5.
Any luck with making copies? I was able to make DVD copies from all my previous nav DVDs. Hopefully, they haven'tcopy protected the new one. BTW, I use Roxio Easy Media Creator v10

Let me investigate that right now and I'll let you know if my computer will do it. The folks at Navteq told me that it can be done but that only the best of computers can cut through the data successfully. (?)

Let me give it a try on my v.5 first.

I can take the 8th person but after that I will have to put the orders on hold temporarily (at least for me).

If someone not on the list above would be willing to buy a disc and start your own list , it would be nice.

P.S. I will see if I can burn my version 5 just to see if I can make copies of the disc. If this is possible , then I can make all the copies of version 7 for everyone and send them to you. Has anyone attempted to burn a nav DVD successfully???

Hey guys,

For those of you on the list, please PM me your mailing addresses and a phone number where I can reach you. I just spoke with Steve and we agreed the best way for us to handle this is for me to coordinate amongst each of you the sharing process so that the person who has the disc mails it DIRECTLY to the next person in line rather than sending it to me. That way it will pass along the waiting list much quicker since it won't have to travel from each of you to me individually. Also , this will cut down on me having to pay shipping each time and the trouble of having to do it over and over. However, I want to be able to talk to each of you on the phone personally to make absolutely sure the mailing preferences are good for each new recipient in the line up. This also means you will need to talk to the person in front of you and behind you in the line to verify specifics. I will not share phone numbers/addresses with anyone (and I hope this privacy will be extended by the other members involved with this process) unless it is absolutely necessary for expedient transactions of sharing this disc. For example, Steve prefers it to arrive via US postal service rather than UPS. I want to make sure these types of instructions and any other variables are executed properly and plus I just feel this needs to be monitored so that I am aware of where the disc is at all times. Once you receive the disc, I then would expect each of you to simply mail a check for $30 to me at that time.
Tomorrow I get the disc and then I will be mailing it to Steve sometime most likely by Friday.

Please go ahead and send me the phone numbers and addresses ASAP so that I can write all of this down and keep this concerted effort intact.

Then once the first 9 people have downloaded the disc, I can then loan it on an individual basis. I hope this all can be finished up within around 3 to 4 weeks.
Also, I prefer not to mail it to Canada due to the trouble of customs. If you are on the list already, and you live in Canada, I think we should go ahead and send it to you , but anyone after the first 9 on the list need to proceed on your own. Sorry.

Good luck and thanks for doing this as it seems to be a great idea. Look forward to speaking with you on the phone. Don't worry, I'm not a wind bag on the phone. I hate talking long on phones

Regards,

Trumpet1

Thank you once again "trumpet1" for all your effort. Great Idea to send it directly to the next person to save time. I assume, you will send a pm about the address of the next person in the list (in my case "vonbeeler") once you track who has the disc and who has to get it. I shall send you the check as soon as I receive the disc.

Great!. Looks like we can get this party started. I have everyone's info except Vonbeeler but he is the last one on the list and I know he will PM me sooner or later. I am just waiting on the disc for now.
I will contact each of you either by phone or PM to give you heads up on what to do. Also be ready to get a call or PM from the person in front of you or behind you in the lineup. Good luck guys.
I'll keep everyone posted

I installed the new disc today. I had limited time to play around with it. During that time I did not find any new functions that stood out.

You would think I could give you a simple answer to a simple question?

Well, I began to install it while waiting for my kids at the school bus. I turned off the engine and left the Command system on. I lost track of time because I was talking for awhile. When I got home it was still loading and I did not pay attention to the time. Perhaps 1/2 hour??? Better check with Trumpet1 sorry!

I got the disc loaded moments ago and it is very simple of course. I backed my car out of the garage and left it running through the 30 minutes it took to download. Simply put the disc in the 1st CD slot, a message pops up about format is unknown, press down on the comand controller, a message will pop up displaying your current version and it will ask you if you want to download the new v.7 ? Click on YES . After that, come back to your car 25 minutes later and then sit and wait for the message that the download is complete. It then will prompt you a message that then kicks the CD back out.
Then the COMAND unit will shut down for a few seconds and then it will automatically come back on. ####Just for assurance, I placed the DVD back into slot one and repeated the first two steps just to make sure the screen verifies you have v. 7. After seeing that, click on "NO" so that it will not install it all over again. You just want to see the verifying message that v.7 is there. ####

Afterwards, MAKE SURE TO PUT THE YELLOW INSTRUCTION CARD BACK INTO THE DVD CASE SO THAT THE NEXT PERSON WILL HAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!!!! Of course don't forget to send me $30 at your convenience sometime after you've received the disc.

Keep in mind this is just a NAV update and will not cause gorgeous women to begin swarming all around your car or increase your gas mileage. It will be things that you may not even notice for the most part but when you need it, you'll be glad you did this. Highways are added, ATM machines come and go, location of Hooter's restaurants are added (yippee) restaurants close down, hotels change names , oh, and did I mention location of Hooter's restaurants are added (yippee)? , and this is what this is primarily for.

Let's please respect each other and get this chain moving along quickly and please make sure to communicate addresses clearly to make sure this disc doesn't get lost. Also don't forget to ask the person after you how they would like it shipped. Some like UPS , some like USPS mail. I recommend that each of you give me a PM or a call just to let me know how you're doing.
I will be PMing you as your turn gets closer.
If someone else has a disc and would like to start a chain, let me know. My list is now 10 strong.

Regards
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Well Trumpet1, if not the NAV update, and if not the car, perhaps the plates will get the gorgeous women

I sent the disc to steveb9771 today via regular USPS. It is only around $5 to send and gets there in 2 days. I highly recommend putting the disc in one those thick paper packages you usually find there at the post office that they provide. The reason I like mail as opposed to UPS is that the recipient doesn't have to be present or sign anything to get the package. . Plus it is less expensive. You should be able to download the disc and then mail it off the next day, it's that easy.

Thanks to trumpet1 for getting this chain underway. It seems a dealer would be proactive and make this service update available as a courtesy - think about the opportunities to sell some additional maintenance, service or parts (or maybe a new S550!) with the half-hour our vehicles would be waiting while v.7 was being installed.

I think the dealer would like to collect $200+ for this "service"...

If the dealers are relying on the $35-40 margin from selling these disks, we ought to be looking for another dealer. I feel that NAVTEQ is entitled to make whatever it can from their efforts to maintain this enormous database, but $200????

I was loading an address into my nav tonight as we are going to a Christmas party and one improvement that I believe they have done is made it where entering a specific house number is available. Before when I would enter a house #, I was unable to get the system to lock in a specific house number as it would only allow me to get within a block of numbers. For example, if I entered 7699, it would show up as 7600.....7699. Prior to the upgrade , I was never confident that it would get me to the exact house (even though it did).

Thank you for the update... It was quite painful to be left in an area and then land up searching for the number that one actually wanted to go to. I await my turn to upload the same. I shall mail the check of $30 instantly on receipt and keep you posted once I get it so that the DVD location is tracked.... I hope Steve will update us the location once he passes it on to "nkole"..(nkole you were right that dealers charge $200 for the update at least here in the Bay Area).. Thanks for the detailed inputs "trumpet1"...

Rcvd Saturday 12/13 -- Send to nkole via USPS Monday 12/15

Installation took about 35 minutes, corrected positions of freeway off ramps that had been relocated in the past year as part of a major road widening project.
