Given where I'm at on Trumpet1's list, is it ok for me to go ahead and jump on the second list (NJS430's List)? I'm fine with this if this is ok with everyone else. Let me know. Thanks.

No problem at all. Just PM me and let me know so I can revise that list I keep posting. I actually use this thread as my notebook as a reminder of what's going on.

NJS430 may want to do the same thing so we can all get a quick update as to where we stand on the lists.

I don't get to use my nav very often. For those of you who do and have upgraded to v.7, have you noticed much of an improvement/change? So far, I've not seen any obvious differences.

The first thing I noticed is - in bird's view extreme closeup
I can see silhouette of buildings (in Manhattan). That's all for now after few days of driving.

It is the order in which I received PM's. If you think I've forgotten you, PLEASE send me another PM. If NJS430 decides to loan his disc, feel free to contact him. It is $30 to borrow for the download, then I ask that you mail it to the next person by notifying that person (and me) via PM.
List update. One dropped off my list and went to NJS430.

I once heard a year or so ago that Google maps were going to be the new nav format. Then we would see things in map form and as "real" images too.

I believe from this point on I will halt on taking any more names. Sorry, but I have to stop somewhere Thanks to all that shared the cost with me and I hope you enjoy the new info. Maybe we can do this again next year.

I was aware of two highway intersections that were incorrect in v5.0. One in NJ and one in PA. I had logged the error with NAVTEQ. You can do this on their website. I verified that they both have been corrected in V7.0. My understanding is that every year there are 1,000s of updates made since roads are constantly changing and new ones being built. Also, software is updated to correct any bugs in the routing logic.

I think the change you need the most is the one for the place you haven't driven to yet.

I have received the disk last evening and will ship it out to vonbeeler tomorrow (Monday) morning. Thanks to all the people up the line for having promptly send it along the chain. A special thanks to "trumpet1" for having coordinated the same - your check will be on its way in the morning too.

As a reminder, make sure you have your COMAND system updated to at least the '08 system requirements or the nav update disc won't load up. Basically I'm referring to '07 owners. This will require you to go to the service dept. and have them do all of this for you. Better yet, to keep the disc moving as quickly as possible from one person to the next, get this done ahead of time and then you can do the nav update yourself at home. Only the '08 comand update has to be done by the service tech.

Early 08 models may also need to be updated.
Some of the features added by the upgrade include:
  • Birds-eye view as an alternate display
  • Ability to display estimated arrival time along bottom of map
  • Real Time traffic display
  • Ability to play DVD video when not moving

If you have none of the above features, you need a dealer upgrade prior to installation of the new DVD.

Are any of you getting charged for getting your COMAND system updated by the dealer? There are some dealers here in Houston that are trying to charge $120 for them to update the COMAND system.

In theory, you're not supposed to be charged for the comand update if it's in association with the failure of the nav update install.

Now if you just approached them and said, "Hey, I want my comand updated to 2008 standards" and you said nothing else, then they would have a right to charge you.

My service team did not charge me.

In anticipation of this and because my fuel gage was functioning intermittently, I took my 07 to the dealer last week and told them I was getting the new 08 nav DVD from a friend and would need to update command so that I could load the new DVD. I even gave them this tech bulletin from Konigstiger:

"MBUSA DTB P-B-82.85/512h NOV08 software update for COMAND and Telematics system allowing for full recognition of latest navigation database DVD update."

A day later they called me and said there was no update available and that the disk should load but If I had a problem they would help me load it. I will attempt to load myself knowing that my comand is not updated because it does not currently have the features that have been discussed here. Then I will waste a morning away from my office to take my car to dealer again for them to figure it out. Its frustrating. Anyway I should receive the disc in todays mail and will attempt loading tonight and probably to dealer tomorrow. Will report results.

Ludicrous, MB released the software update to resolve a number of Telematics system conditions under warranty. Discuss the matter with dealership Service Manager if he refuses to honor your request contact MBUSA CAC 800-367-6372.PM your email address and I will forward a copy of the DTB inclusive of warranty codes.

OK I stand corrected. It did load up quite easily even though my command has not been updated (as far as I know). The dealer was right! I took about 20-30 minutes to download and just followed screen prompts. Thats it. I noticed a new gas station close to my house is now indicated on screen. DMercedes will receive disc on Fri. I'll send overnight tomorrow.

So now that thats complete I wonder how easy it would be for me to get a command update to get movie functions, traffic, and Birdseye functions that everyone has been talking about?? I probably wont pursue it. I hardly use the NAV anyway. It would be kinda cool though.

Guys, I just went to my dealership (Rusnak in Arcadia, CA) and talked to ALL the SA's there and here is basically what they tried to tell me after 15min of debate between me and the 4 SA's there: 1.There's no such update available from MBUSA 2. It is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to change telematics on a 2007MY to a 2008MY (whatever the car came with is what is there for life) Before I left one of the SA did mention that if such "update" did exist it definitely would not be covered under warranty.

I don't believe your dealer is properly informed. There are plenty of people on this forum who have MY07's and had their systems updated to include the menu system that includes Video. I believe if you search this forum you will find the part number for the update disk.....

Did you mention DTB P-B-82.85/512h? PM your email address, I will forward a copy to present to them.

The copy of the DTB that konigstier provided definitely helped me out. After I provided the service foreman at my dealership the DTB order number, he was able to find the disks and instructions that are needed to do the updates. Before this, I got the same push back from all the SA. When the foreman was reading from the DTB he pulled after I gave him the order number, I was able to finished some of the things he was reading. I'm sure he was shocked that I somehow gotten access to the printout of the DTB for the telematic update.

I will be updating my head unit this Monday. Needless to say, this has been a very painful process until I got some assistance from this forum, especially from Red Knight and konigstiger.
