Navigation Update for the new S Class

When I got the car back, it did not have the parallel parking option. Didn't you also get double parking assist lines, the fixed 2008 lines plus the dynamic ones (or was it only those fixed lines)?

I complained of course and next time they asked me to bring the bulletin with the car, and the second time they were able to do it right.

Saw your post from earlier this year about nav. I would like the bulletin, as I am going to have to have my system updated. If possible please include any pertinent info regarding this upgrade. When I talked to my dealer they didn't seem to be aware of the firmware/comand sw upgrade. Probably talked to the wrong person. Don't want to loose anything, want to make system better!

Quick question on dynamic parking guides in the rear view camera - is this a special feature with Distronic or Advanced Parking Guidance or similar?

I have Premium 3 but no Distronic and I only have static guides - should I have the dynamic ones and need to get my COMAND configuration checked?

I saw dynamic ones on an Infiniti I test drove a while back and rather liked them - I want to know if I am missing anything I should have on my S550

I'm not positive, but I have them on my car. From reading the posts it seems to me that you probably should have them. Some of the posts on this site, in this thread, refer to loss of this feature by improper updating. Is the parallel parking selection available on your camera screen? If not the comand sw may need to be checked by MB service.

Your car is a 2009 model? The dynamic parking lines were discontinued at some point, that was when the speedo menu with park assist appeared. At this point the complex rear view camera control unit at the trunk was replaced by a simple SW at the Comand head unit that draws the lines but only static lines.

The confusion from SW updates and version coding may result the the HU drawing static lines and the rear view camera unit at the trunk drawing dynamic lines. But on a 2009 model dynamic lines cannot appear because there is no control unit to take care of those.

I asked my dealer about the Navigation update (and required Comand update?) and he told me that my car's s/w was not update-able to the current levels?

Doesn't make sense to me, but what data or document do I need to point him to to clarify the situation. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe my '07 s550v4 was built in Aug 2006.

The update that is actually available for your car is the satellite radio update, but as a benefit of the update it will also updates your Command Unit. This will allow you to be able to play video through the nav screen along with a lot of other updates to the nav. You should also update your maps software, I'm sure someone on board has the maps software disc for rent.
