Would you kindly list the breakdown for the parts required and labor cost so we can have a idea of total mod cost? Thanks much appreciated.

1. Rear lights: (2) $430 + tax

2. new (2010) rear SAM: (1) $350 + tax (paid wholesale, retail is much higher, not sure exactly)

3. Fitment and programming of the rear SAM: $200 flat

4. New look and feel: priceless :-)

Thanks, Jon. I had a few questions for you - could you send me a private message when you get a chance on a couple of items?

1. Is it possible to purchase S65 exhaust tips without buying the entire exhaust system which includes clamps, mufflers, pipes, etc? I would love to just buy the tips and fabricate my own piping into the stock muffler.

2. How much would the front bumper (2010 AMG) + lower LED running lamps, front SAM and new headlights be?

Thanks in advance!

CL55_Serge, Thanks for the info. I am also interested in the tail-light upgrade on my 08; I reached out to the MB of Princeton regarding this, this morning I got a call from someone in service stating that MB doesn't support this upgrade as it's a liability... especially when it comes to brake-lights.

Did your local Stealer tell you the same thing?

Many dealer will not think outside the box, back when I was younger dealers would not even think of selling non-oem wheels now about everyone of them do. Maybe Serge can give us the part #'s and find someone else willing to do the service.

I never bothered to ask - I figured anything that you replace on a stock Mercedes isn't supported by the local dealer, the warranty or Mercedes in general. You're on your own when you do these type of modifications. Same is true for changing exhausts, wheels, flashing the ECU, racing pulleys, headers, etc..

Does that stop me? Heck no, my CL55 has a bunch of mods - wife's S550 does also :-) I really enjoy the whole retrofit process, trying and failing, figuring out what needs to be done and in the end having it all work.

I can get the part numbers for you guys from my receipts, there is a member on this site that can get you guys good deals - JonMBZ mentioned that he can help. Programming has to be done with the vehicle present, there is a person that travels - Steve Krabbenborg <mbenznl@gmail.com>, he does lots of retrofits and might be in your area in the future. Otherwise, you have to get to know a service advisor or a mechanic at a local dealer that can help you. If you are in SF Bay Area - I know an excellent person that I like and trust a lot.

Unfortunately the only way to get the tips is by buying the rear mufflers they do not come separate. As for the front end conversion that will be a lot more expensive and more tricky. I have already looked at the wiring for these and they are not the same you would need a 2010 body mounted engine harness just for the correct connections. As for the sam I looked up the sam and it doesn't have a 2010 code on it so to me that means it is the same as the 2009 however the previous years 07/08 have different sams. I checked the pricing and it's around 7k without the cable harness I was unable to get pricing since there has been no orders in the US for them yet. I am still not sure if it's possible to do since I do not have the engineer background to know the differences in the two systems, but I am sure you can find a way to get it working unless SCN coding is blocked for some reason.

Thanks for looking into that, appreciate it.

I think I will fabricate some neat looking tips out of 304L stainless steel or maybe get a buddy of mine to cut some cool ones out of billet or 6061 T1 aluminum on his CNC machine and finish them in white porcelain to match the white powder coat on the rims and the white paint on the body :-)

Will post some pics in a few months on that front...

On my receipt, the parts of the rear lights are as follows:

221-820-05-64 TAIL LAMP
221-820-06-64 TAIL LAMP

I am not sure which is left or which is right. I need to ask for the SAM part number, since mine was taken out of another 2010 S550 and I didn't order it. JonMBZ might be able to point out which part number the 2010 rear SAM is, otherwise I will get it from the person that installed my rear SAM.

Thanks for all your help CL55_Serge. Are there any members in the NY/NJ/PA/CT area who would be interested in the tail-light upgrade. If the MB dealer isn't willing to do it, perhaps we can start asking local shops which do the mods. Ideas on where to fine someone who can do the installs/service?
