AMG package exhaust alignment question

Some of you might know my father's S350 (has the AMG package) was rear-ended. We just got the car back after the repairs were done. Now, the left exhaust is slightly pulled outward compared to the left exhaust. We showed this to the shop that did the repairs and they stated they can't really do anything as the two exhausts are actually one line rather than separate two lines (one for the left and one for the right). They said that if they tried to "fix" it, they could risk damaging something. Is this true? If they are one line, then how come both exhausts are not aligned equally? Can this be fixed or should we just leave it as it is? Note that when the car was new, both exhausts were aligned perfectly. BS - something isn't aligned correctly. How much off are they? Could be a sign of a larger panel alignment issue.

My father uses the car everyday. I'll get some pics up by this weekend. They are not off by too much, but enough to notice they are off if you look at them.

Here are some pics. Notice that the left exhaust is very slightly pulled outward.

could it be that they cut the pipes at one point and had to weld it back? Most repair shops will not spend the time on such things simply because they dont think that matters too much (in their opinion) if the tips are off a little. Most body shops send it out to muffler shops for welding jobs so I'm sure you can take it back but then you run the risk of it being cut and rewelded again (and who knows, they might be more off on the second try)

I remember reading about the unfortunate accident.

I looked at the photos and I think the difference between the two exhaust tips is slight and overall this is tolerable. I personally would not send the car back to get the exhaust realigned.

I'm not sure about your vehicle, but some vehicles have the exhaust mounted to the car via certain parts. It is possible that these parts are not aligned correctly. It's not worth it for you to force the body-shop to make some odd adjustment where the mechanic really shouldn't do anything about. Say he forces something to move, he may be damaging another component to get your aesthetically perfect exhaust which may weaken some other component down the road. Keep in mind, these mechanics aren't always perfect and if they make a mistake, they might not tell you.

Good luck!
