Yes, it is mainstream. That was kinda my point. Turning 21 is a milestone, yes. And a simple, high quality, useful item of this sort is a solid way to mark it, IMO. The things you are mentioning would seem more appropriate for an actual achievement of some sort. Simply managing to exist for 21 years, most of it with assistance, doesn't seem to me to be that much of an accomplishment. Save the extravagant stuff for when they actually DO something.

Paul, that is one of the best posts I've read in quite sometime. When I turned 21, I got........NOTHING! Its just another day, big deal.

However, I will still revert to my previous post. If a man is determined on giving something, stocks are nice.

21 yr old KID!? WOW! No offense but what the hell are you doing? Stop babying this KID and tell him to get out in to the real world and start making a living. No better gift for a 21 yr old MAN than to realize what the real world is really like. The sooner you expose him to reality the better off he will be.

Hell, when I turned 21, I was living in a 14x56 trailer with my first wife awaiting the arrival of my third child!

As someone who just turned 21 a few weeks ago, all I got was a pat on the back.

I would have much preferred a whore.

Like a swift kick in the a$$ to go with your pat on the back? Lol!

Actually, I'm very pleased with what I received for my 21st B-day over a decade ago. My mother put together a chronological photo album for me that covered my first 21 years. I treasure it to this day. I'm sure it didn't cost much except getting some photos reproduced or cropped, etc., but I'm certain it took her many many hours and because of that is worth all the more to me.

Besides, a young man that age is likely to damage, lose, or have stolen a nice watch. I enjoy such things now, but I'm certainly glad I didn't have them at that age, it would be so easy to get jumped outside a club, hustled, or have drunkenly scratched it against something.

FWIW,

EDJ
